Angry I Was Robbed ---- Sliding Rear Window

Alright All,
My truck was broken into last night and about three thousand dollars worth of CDs, Radar Detector, and my brief case were all stolen. This all happened at my home which is not in a bad part of town. Does anyone know if there is a lock or a way to secure the rear window of my 2002 F150 SuperCrew? I only have 5000 miles on it and I went to a dealer and they told me that there is nothing I can do about it. They opened the window without breaking it, reached in and opened the rear door with their arm I guess. Man, this sucks. If there is no way to secure this rear window, I would like to recommend to EVERYONE that you do not pay extra for this option, because I will NEVER feel confident to leave things of value in my truck, and I do not feel confident leaving my truck anywhere. If there is something I can do to secure this window, please let me know, also, if this has happened to someone else please let everyone about to buy any truck (not just a Ford!!) know. As an engineer, I think this is something that automotive manufacturers should fix and if this has happened to a majority of the customer base, I think we can get something done for future truck owners

That really sucks, on my 2001 I broke into my own truck through the back window. I used a metal coat hanger. It took about a minute. The only way to secure it would be to buy a power slider, or a cap for the truck.

I hope they catch the guy.

sorry to hear about being stolen from. For what its worth, if they haden't gotten it open, they would have broken the window.

sorry to hear about that, it will come back to them. Is there something that works the same way as the sliding glass door bars?

JB777,

Sorry to hear that.

After hearing of this for the first time, I purchased some 1" x 1/8" aluminum bar stock at a local hardware store, cut it to length (approximately 14"), then painted it black.

Now, just drop it into the lower window track and this will prevent the window from moving. The bar fits snugly and thus there is no noise from vibration, etc.

The black paint makes it almost invisible to the casual glance.

I also drilled a 1/4 inch hole near the top at one end to allow a key, pen, etc. to be inserted so you can lift the bar out when you want to use the window.

Good Luck...XLT_D

Iam sorry about your loss. I was going to buy a sliding window to replace mine but after something like that I probably wont. The place where I work is not the best neighborhood.

One good thing is that if you live in a nice area I bet it is the kids of someone you know! Keep an eye out you will figure it out!

It happened to me once in a place where they said we have never had a car broken into in 20 years then smash out goes my back window and my cd player and radar detector I snooped around a little and found in a kids car down the block! after I scared the heck out of him I ratted him out to the rents! Little punk!

Good luck!

Rats are always sniffing around to take something. I only looked at trucks with no sliding rear.

Maybe it's time to have a car alarm installed? One with a motion sensor?
