How Do Ya Know?
My question is, if you buy a used truck is there any way to know if it has been taken in for the recalls? Also do they have a time limit? I just bought a 98 f150 supercab and I see that it was recalled for the lugs not staying on. kinda scary?
Con grats!
Congratulations on your "new" truck! Hope you love it as much as we love ours!
As Dennis said, go to a Ford dealer & have them run the VIN & get the Oasis report. It's free & they can give you a copy - you may need to ask for it. It details the work/recalls don e on the truck - found out mine had a whole new rear put in as well as 4 tie rods & a whole new radio!
As far as the lug nuts go I'm betting they were replaced. See if your lug nut has a collar around the base - mine does. They should be the same unless Ford started to equip the later years with the corrected nut. Also, I found out our lug nuts MUST be tightened/loosened by hand only - NO pneumatic tools! They are aluminum & can stretch if not takend care of properly. Hmmm - I could REALLY dazzle you & tell you that we have to use lug nuts w/flat bases only (no acorns) since our wheel are hub centric & not lug centric but I'll save that for another post! LOL!
Good luck & check this site often for all the info you'll ever need to know about these trucks! And, stop by our chat room any nite - we're always there after 9PM or so. See you soon! Bye!
