I finally did it! On March 16th I placed an order for a new 2002 F-150 SC SS 4X2 XLT with the 7700lb payload group B.

Now I'm curious... Who or where should I be calling to find out about build dates, vin nunmber assignment, all the good stuff.

Of course my sales person said he'd keep me posted, but dog gone it I just can't sit around waiting

Are there any places or numbers I can call. Or people to talk to or ask for. Cause I gotta know!

I started calling Ford Customer Service# 800-392-FORD about three weeks after I ordered our truck--then about (2) weeks later the vehicle order was in their computer. Once V.I.N. is assigned they gave us an estimated build date (week that vehicle will be assembled), which was moved backward a couple times.

The beauty of tracking the V.I.N. with Ford; You know approx. when you new truck will arrive at the dealer (adding 5 to 10 days to your estimated final build date).

Also, if you keep checking the dealer lot (after close, or on Sunday, if you live in Indiana--all cars dealers in Indiana are closed on Sunday), You may find out your new truck is in before the Sales Rep. knows (we did).

I have read instances on this board where a "special-order" truck accidently gets put on sales lot & sales immediately (before your salesman knows your truck is there). Also, remember, if You almost stole this vehicle on a "special-order"; You need to drive buy and look at the lot everyday (when you figure vehicle is due). If your truck is unloaded from the convoy & someone see's it and wants to buy it for $2,000.00 more than You are paying--do You think some other Sales Rep is going to tell prospective buyer--"that truck is already sold"? Probably not!

Is there anything special I need to do when calling this 1-800 number?

 

Give Customer Service your name, address & telephone#. Tell them you have a new truck on order with Dealer (you will need dealer name & address).

They will enter Your name into their data base. You will be able to track your order after Your info is entered into their computer. We became more excited after vehicle had been issued a V.I.N.

Get the V.I.N.; this will be you key to positively identifing your new vehicle, should employees at the dealership not realize that your V.I.N. is "already sold", upon delivery at dealership lot.

Our truck was delivered on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I just so happened to find it on the back lot (apparently convoy had dropped it off after closing on Wednesday evening). It was frustrating, knowing We had to wait two days before taking delivery of it.

It was cool getting to see your vehicle with plastic on the seats, flourscent stickers on the new tires and knowing that that truck was created exactly the way you ordered it.

When we ordered our 99, the Sales Rep. was astonished; I gave him all the code and options group numbers to order the vehicle. He replied, "I have never had anybody give me the exact code and option group numbers when they ordered a new vehicle".

One more important thing, find out the dealer number before you call Cust. Service. If dealer refuses to give out their dealer number; go onto their lot and view window stickers on vehicles that dealer ordered directly from Ford. Dealer # is usually three digits and will be on the window sticker, close to ordering dealer's name & address. Dealer # is on every window sticker.

I think when you call Customer Service, the first thing they will ask you is dealer #. Have fun, it can be an exciting event (expecially if this is your first new vehicle purchase, like our's was). Gearman

My dealer told me the same thing when I went in I had a paper with ever option code and description writen down. I'd gotten a PDF file of the 2002 Source Book and just went crazy with it.

My salesperson said "I've never had it so easy ordering a vehicle".

I'm very excited.

So with the info you've given I will be able to know the actual exact date that the truck will arrive at the dealer, right? Looks like I'll be taking that day off of work to bug the guy unloading it, hehe.

Jeff, I don't think you will be able to estimate delivery that tight. Remember, You will be dealing with many variables in shipping your new truck to the dealer.

You won't be able to predict how far backed-up the train or convoy (truck) people are. Then again, if you live close to the assembly plant, you may get your new truck in alot less than 10-days.

Cust. service said that our truck would be assembled week of 11/??/1998; I added 8 days to 1st. day of build week, started driving by dealer every night. On the 10th night--truck was at dealer, back lot.

Our truck was shipped via train to within 2 1/2 miles of our dealer--it may have been waiting in the train yard for 1 to 2 days for a convoy (car carrier) to deliver it 2 1/2 miles.

I got the DORA from the dealer on Saturday. My truck already has a build week of 4/15/02 and it already has it's VIN number. The priority number is 12 also!

Talk about excited

So looks like the week of the 22nd I'll be stopping by the dealer everynight.

This isn't my first new vehicle, but the first one I got to order and I know it's going to be exactly what I want, not "Well, it's got what you want, but its a different color." Or something like that.

Do You know which plant the new truck will be assembled at? I think our dealer sit on the order for two to three weeks when We ordered our truck (I chieseled them alot on the price).

Will Your new truck be coming to dealer convoy all the way, or rail?

 

The truck is being assembled in Oakville Ontario. I'm not sure of how it's getting here. My father's old 89 from Oakville was delivered via convoy. From Ontario I'm guessing that's the only way, I'm not sure though.

I live in the Detroit area.
