Kind of a funny story. I was getting some parts for my bike and saw a 2001 leftover ahem, Chevy S-10 Extreme at the dealer next door, they had a delivered price of $17,495. Out of curiousity I stopped in onthe way out and told them I was interested in trading in my truck for it. To cut through all the details, they told me that it would cost me $3800.00 plus my truck!!! They said they would allow me $13,400 for my truck. I just mumbled a few words under my breath and walked away. When I got home I did some checking on line on prices, the trade in value for my truck with low mileage (28500) is just over $14,500. with a dealer retail of $20,015. The chevy S-10 trade in with 100 miles is $13,100. and dealer retails for $18,690. NOW, I might have been born at night BUT, NOT LAST NIGHT!!!! The dealer called me the following day to ask if I was still interested, I told them what I got for numbers and they said "You know, we are in this business to make money and sell vehicles not make friends and collect vehicles." I told him to K$&# my hairy white A$& and hung up. I could not believe he said that. Just another sales training tactic by chevy I guess.
I've only met one person who owned an Xtream(hehe) He was in the process of filing for a lemon on it at the time. He had all sorts of suspension and mechanical troubles. Real nice guy, just chose the wrong truck
BTW: he was looking at my truck pretty hard, gotta love it!!!.,,,,98
$18.7k for a lowered minitruck??? That's how much I paid for my truck with 24,000 miles on it, LMAO!!

The prices they put on small mid size trucks is crazy. I mean compare any compact truck to a fullsize with similar options and usually the price is within 2G's. I have found most of the time they are only a few hundred off. I truely have no need for a fullsize truck as I never haul that much and could use the extra manuverabilty. Trouble is the stinkin prices and most of the time the small ones are not built as well. The only mid size truck that I know to be as tough as nails is the older Toyota pickups (note: 22r and 22re motors, not the v6) and possibly the Tacoma. Also, none except Dodge off a mid size with a V8. I guess you really need to consider engine output to weight. I know that the Chevy 4.3 and the Ford 4.0 are strong little motor that probably out perform the 4.6 in my fullsize.

I recently rented a 4x4 Ranger with a 4.0, it ran quieter and rode better than my truck. Of course there's always a "but"
, it had the 4.0, and it didn't impress me that much at all unfortunately. I assumed it had a 4 cyl. engine until I got curious and popped the hood. I liked the truck quite a bit actually, but it was also very cramped for a 6' 1" 230 pound person(ME).
