Windows or Mac?

lol, just curious. Let's try and keep it under control. We all know how fired up people can get

I use a little Titanium G4 powerbook 500 MHz, 512MB (Mac OS) for all my graphic/web design and video editing.

If you're already running with a Mac, unless there is some specific piece of Windows software you're trying to run, I would stay with Mac OS X...

If it weren't for my video games being on PC, I'd run MacOS-X fulltime.

...and for note, I work on computers as my living, so I do have some basis to know where I'm coming from.

Any senior level computer people will know that for the most part, MSCE certification these days is kind of a joke. It is a way for MS to make alot of money from you by testing you on memorizing book facts without having any practical computer experience. When I interview someone that has MSCE certification to me, it just shows me that they can study, not actually do anything...

Interviewing is the key to picking out someone with key skills.

Unfortunately, there are ALOT of computer certifications like that...

Daniel,i agree with you to some extent but i also believe that there is more to it then just studying,i should tell you that im am currently going to school for these certifications and i realize that im am not the most experienced person out there. In fact that is one of my concerns the fact that i have no experience and just decided to bite the bullet for a couple of years and just hope for some kind of work to gain some.I have a favore to ask,if you have a few minutes maybe you could email me a couple of examples of questions you would ask during an interview, also how do you feel about subnet masking would you require a new employe to know the binary math to do this or would you be cool with a calculator. Thanks for your help

Thumbs up

Jerry -- if you do not have experience, having the certifications is definately a good thing, because it does prove that you do have a good starting basis. The main problem with MSCE exams, is they don't involve lab time... I may have been a little strong worded in my last email, but short of A+/Network+ (really easy tests), any amount of certifications is good thing in representing knowledge.

I'll try to shoot you an email tomorrow on what I look for, but it really depends on what you're applying for and what you're looking to do. I work with backend server hardware for online transaction apps and such, not desktop support these days...

I'm heading to sleep at the moment, so I'll write an email tomorrow.

Wink

I couldn't resiste to jump in on this thread....
I thought I was a TOTAL geek - but everyone has made me look like a street dog...

Now 'expired' Certs'
MS NT 4.0 Workstation, Server & Server in the Enterprise,
Also Networking Essentials.
Wish I could say the certs helped my carreer, but they didn't
(not that I can tell)

I consider myself an 'expert' on desktop breakfix, lots of common sense with servers

Anyway - my toys
PIII 800
256mb ram (133mhz bus)
64mb ATI radeon
integrated with home theater :-)

Win2k Advanced Server
Duron 800 - upgradeable to 1.6ghz <athlon>
Raid 0 (8gb x 2)
Raid 1 (2-40gb mirrored)
512mb ram
SCSI cdrom and cdrw

Currently trying to figure out what to do with my carrer - lots of experience, but no 'formal' schooling... playing with programming now.
Anyone know if a job in Cincinnati that requires and 'mover and shaker' computer geek with peoples skills ??

Take care everyone <tomorrows friday>
