DSL Rocks
I've been on dsl for so long I can't remember when I started. It's been so long that the phone company was surprised when they looked at my files when we were having problems a couple of years ago during an upgrade. Turns out I was the first in my area. In fact, I was on dsl before they advertised it.
I can never go back to dialup. Broadband is where it's at. Nothing can beat watching video in realtime without having to wait for it to download first.
DSL came in real handy when I was doing some publishing work for a club I belonged to. If advertisers wanted to email me a 20 meg ad, it wasn't a problem.
If I didn't get such a great deal on my dsl line, I'd probably be on cable.

Well, I dont know what I have, the name anyway. I know it uses an ethernet cord, on a network with a T3 connection. anyway, it is the fastest thing I have seen. When I go home for the weekend, the dialup is slow and anyoing, so I never get on here . On my laptop, I have messenger, weatherbug, and multiple internet sites up and going at one time, just awsome
.
Ssssssigh..... I really envy you all. Just got a new 'puter, now I need a DSL.
Been on AOL for a long while but lately I can't connect or I connect at a ridiculously slow speed only to get knocked off shortly thereafter.
I like the thought of being connected to F150online 24-7 though
If I might be so bold as to ask, what services are you all using and what makes for a good service as opposed to like..............mmmm AOL fer instance?
LOL! Thanx in advance to all.

I started out with AOL, I used them for about a year until they screwed on my monthly bill several times, and I also hated the slow dial up and getting knocked off line all the time.
DSL is the way to go.
Larry.

I have had cable for 2 years and satilite for 2 years before that. I would die if i had to go back to dial up.
Next thing you need is a laptop hooked up wireless off your cable modem. God i love this setup i rarely use my desktop anymore. I can take my laptop up to about 200 ft outside my house or anywhere inside wireless and have cable modem speeds.

If you can get cable, it would be cheaper than dsl. My service costs over $80 a month with part of the fee going to the phone company and the rest going to the isp. Actually the isp is owned by my friend, so I only pay the phone company which puts my actual monthly bill at $32.50.
I have a security and dependability issue and I trust the phone company better than I do the cable company. The cable company's system keeps going down if there's an accident or the power goes out. The phone company has yet to fail me. Having the C.O. less than 5 blocks away and all roads to the C.O. being residential 20 mph speedlimit, we have yet to have an accident that could bring down the lines.
These days, you don't need the tech to come and install the splitter and modem. Back when I got dsl, the tech came out and installed the splitter outside and ran the data cable to my office, installed and hooked up the modem and plugged it into my nic. Then he had to call the C.O. and get the tech there to hardwire in the modem there. Then I had to call my ISP who did whatever they had to do to connect up their system to the phone company and give me the ip address. Took about an hour to do the wiring and another 15 or 20 minutes to get it running.
well, I normally dont show my bill, but here goes.
$00.00 monthly fee
$00.00 intalment fee
$00.00 service fee
$00.00 Total Due
But I guess I should get that at what tuition cost.........
and no service requiered, just straight on the net....
