When will ford release a new I6
When will ford release a new I6
I've been reading up on engine stuff lately and I have to say that Chevy's Vortec 4200 4.2L engine is pretty cool. I mean getting 275 lb-ft@3600 rpm and 270 hp@6000 rpm is pretty good for an inline 6 gas engine with 4.2L displacement. The engine makes about 210 hp@3600 rpm. These numbers kick the crap out of Fords current 4.2L
I havent been a big fan of Chevy in the past but someone did something right with an engine like that.
On the other hand Chevy has announced the production of the first full sized pickup truck box made completely of plastic.
I posted this earlier in the wrong forum.

please keep in mind that Chevy has put every piece of thechnology they have into the 4.2. It is the most advanced engine they have ever put in a vehicle.
Translated... more problems down the road. Remember their first foray into 8-6-4 engines?

If Ford were to build an inline 6, I don't think they would use 300ci. The 4.9 is a tried and true motor. It's old school technology.
I too would like to see Ford producing some higher hp and tq numbers. The GM 4.2 sounds impressive at 270hp. Thats at 6000rpm though. When can one actually tap into that power that high up in the rev range. I guess one of the many things that I have learned from comming here a lot is, the big numbers sound great. They don't tell the whole story though. I think I am more impressed by numbers that work in the real world. I hope that Ford can produce something that has a good peak, in the usable range.
....but then, what do I know?
