Cavalcade of Customs

My sweet and wonderful girlfreind just told me that the Cavalcade of Customs is going on this weekend and here's the shocker she wants to go too. I would like to go Sunday as I am off work and can spend the whole day drooling over cars. It's supposed to be at the Albert B Sabin Convention Center but, where the heck is that? I know where the First Star Center is but that is about it on the convention centers in Cincinnati. Can someone please give me a few driving directions on how to get there? I would be coming up north I-75 and then where? Thanks in advance.

I'll be there on Saturday. If you get off at 3rd street, i think it runs right into the convention center (if i remember corectly). There's signs for it though, you can't miss it. Last year, the 3rd street exit was closed and since that's the last exit before KY, i went into KY and had to turn around and get off at the Reading Road exit. If you can get a map of downtown, it'll make it a lot easier.

Oops, i goofed. Those are directions if you're coming from I-71. I'm not sure how you get there from I-75.

Actually I think you helped me out a little. If you crossed the river into KY then you were on 75/71. I75 and I71 join together at about Walton, KY and then branch back off in Cincinnati. It's just that little section there as soon as you cross the river over into Ohio, there's a million roads that turn in every direction and people are just flying past you.

One person told me that it's just like 1 street above the Red's stadium. So if the Red's is on Pete Rose way the next street is 3rd. Then according to someone else it's more like 7th and Race ST. Then according to the only map I have that has it listed it's close to 6th and Central PKWY. I am not lost... just badly confused.

If I go and actually find my way there I will take some pics. I have access to a digital but according to my girlfreind it chews up batteries and is not worth taking. So I will take regular pics and get them processed quickly. I will take mutiple shots of every car worhty of a picture (man I hope they have a lot of Fords there) and if need be get a piece by peice description with specs. Do you know a site where I can post pictures for free?

Thanks guys

Ok, so it is 3rd st, not a problem. We might even have my girlfriends dad going with us. He actually use to help setup the Cavalcade of Customs show. He would take the cars as they were coming and drain the gas out and help prep them for the show. This was along time ago when the orignal Batman was really big. The driver of the batmobile went to bring it into the center and told him it had just been filled up. So the driver and him spent the better part of the day driving all over town, just driving the gas out of it. I thought that was pretty cool, hope he goes along.

I'm pretty sure it's fifth, not third. We got off at that exit for all the football games, and drove right past it everytime. There's a lot and a garage on the south side of fifth street. The conv. center is on the north side of the street. IFifth street is one way, going east. Go west out fourth street to get back to I75. The convention center sits between seventh and fifth.

You are exactly right. I have since found from several other sources that it is on fifth street. I know down to every turn how to get there and where to park. Getting out is always the easy part for me, I guess I have a good homing beacon. The only thing I hate is the one way streets.
To any one else still going I was told to pass up the people with signs telling you to park in their areas and park in the garage across the street (you may have to walk around the cornor of the convention center).

Thanks to everyone, hope to see ya at the show

Thumbs up

Well, i was there on Saturday (yesterday). It was pretty sweet. Too bad there was ricers there though. That kinda upset me. Ricky Rudd was there signing autographs but we had already left before he showed up. There were a couple really cool '60s Impalas and a few Bel Airs. Those were probably my fav. I think the best part of the show was the drive home when i was behind a corvette and when we got onto a falt strecth of intersate i heard this really loud exhaust note and the vette in front of me took off, heard him shift into 6th, and he was gone. I was doing 70 and he was probably doing 115 by the time i lost sight of him. It was sweet

I have no idea what I was thinking. It was easier than heck to get to and out of that place. There was some really nice cars there. I really didn't mind the ricers, to tell the truth I think some of them are pretty neat and deserve at least a little respect. I mean some dump as much or more money into their car that as we do in our truck. I took about 50 pics and hope to have at least 36 of them tomorrow. Just need to find a place to post them on the web. The only cars I didn't like were a couple of low riders mainly the green Nissan and the sparkle painted s10.
