Question KOEO help

I was wondring if anyone knows how to check the codes in these trucks with the key on-engine off test.I know in older fords you ground a pin in the connector harness below the dash and turn the key on.Wondering if this works in the new fords and what pins to use.I have a 2000 f-150 orp that started shaking while driving today and hesitating while accelerating. It is going to the dealer tommorrow but I would like to see what code it set and if I am going to damage it further by driving it to the dealer.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure if this is what you're asking but here it goes. This only works with the digital odometer.

Before you start the engine push the trip resetter, start the truck and keep holding it. After about 8 seconds the odometer read out will show "test". There are about 33 codes including speed (km/h), rpms, gas, oil, etc., which change every time you push the trip resetter.

I hope this is what you needed.

Hi D

Not sure if this is what your asking? Or even if it will work on your truck? You may already know this?

On my 99SC has the digital odometer...press trip-reset button in and hold...with other hand turn ign.key to on..first click forward...dont start eng.

If if works...youll know right away..as things start happening...watch for "test" to appear in the odo.window. ...push button for each function...

I use it for testing....tach (RPM) yeah, that one could make you dizzy water temp...gas..etc

There are other test modes there...dont recall what there for..it was posted somewhere...maybe on mustang site or computer bd.

When i use that "test mode" i loose any recorded mileage on odo..but..start engine..odo. stays in test mode...also records mileage...just dosent show up till you shut engine off and turn on again.. then odo reverts back to normal operation with mileage showing.. You maybe able to press button thru all test modes and revert back to normal without starting engine..

Anyhow...just passing it on for what ever its worth.
I dont think it should hurt to drive to dealers...whats the alternative? Call dealer first? I drove to dealer in 2nd gear

BTW...this test mode on my truck..does not show PO codes. That shows up thru the OBDII data link(pcm) scan..need a scan meter. MIL..thats the check engine or what ever light pops on in your dash indicating a problem..a code has probably been thrown. Your truck should have OBDII.

Again..this is 99 stuff! Maybe someone here has update?

Good luck at dealer....OT

I was looking for the PO codes,on earlier models the check engine light would flash X amount of times to give you the computer code (obdI)
Chyrsler products,if you turn the key on 3 times (not starting engine) will flash codes stored in memory, and also in newer models the PO code.I have a 91 mercury cougar,if you ground pin a to b or something like that (at the connector under the dash used to hook up scan tools) ,the check engine light will flash and give you a numeric code to see what sensor has been tripped.I was hoping this would work in the OBD II models also. But if no one in this board has heard of it,then maybe not.
I do thank you gentleman for your answers

Your correct with the OBDII system you can no longer just use a jumper wire or cycle the key to get the codes. The only way to get your codes are to use a scan tool. They are not cheap, with the lowest priced one I have seen at 130. THen again if you make more than 1 trip to a dealer to get them to read it you have paid for the scanner. Now of course the more you spend on the scanner the more features you get. Things like real time data recording, system monitering, water temp, when certain switches and circuits open and close. The good news is the new OBD II scanners will/should work on any 96 and newer vehicle.

You can read more here www.obdii.com
