when it's time to pay the tax man it doesn't matter how safe your life may have seemed, your time is your time. something as simple as eating a pretzel could take you out.
i would be interested in that stat as well about the bikes versus planes. i was thinking about taking lessons for awhile in gliders, but decided to get a new bike instead.
ride street, ride dirt, and now even snow. we have so many helmets in our place it's ridiculous. i need an all purpose helmet.

I hope this project thing goes well but my take on flying is if men were ment to they would have feathers and all the rest of the things. Me, if I really must I get a ticket for the biggest plane I can find on the route and pray from when I get on till I get off.
Most of these guys that are talking you out of an ultralite are on the money. If you buy a kit plane, I hope you have real world knowledge of aircraft assembly. There have been pros that have died in their kit planes. You should not be entering this "green".
I have noticed that you mentioned lite helicopters.... I highly suggest you get licensed in a commercially built helicopter before you attempt to fly a kit version. Like some have said, there is no room for error once you get above 10 feet. Helicopters are not easy to fly, especially if you have 0 hours in one. Most mishaps happen while attempting to hold a hover, or during landing.
Helicopters require 5 way independence, Left hand for throttle and collective, right hand for cyclic, and both feet for anti torque. All have to be synced as a change in one of the controls effects the others... immediately.
I wish you much luck, as flying is one of life’s great pleasures. Just make sure you live to enjoy it!!
Helicopter Pilots don't fly..... they beat the air in to submission!!
