Question To build or not to build....

That is the question...So here's my idea that has been keeping me up late at night. 42" swampers, 2.5 ton rockwell axle conversion, Leaf sprung front, triple shocks front, duals rear. Detroits in front and rear with manual hubs in front. Hydraulic steering front and rear. Oh, the rockwells come with only one gear ratio, 6.72:1. I would go with pinion brakes front and rear(feature of the rockwells) as well. My old roommate from college is going to do all the work himself in his garage so labor would be at a minimum but with excellent craftsmanship. He's built his jeep cherokee to ride on rockwells with 42's as well and is a leader at camp jeep. This truck will not be a show truck. It will see mud, rocks, sand, pretty much anything i throw at it. We've thrown around the idea of a fully integrated roll cage that would come through the rear window and be completely internal.

Ok, so here's the ultimate question. I want an original truck that can handle being beat to **** offroad but still be driven onroad not neccesarily as a daily driver but one that can get me to the events. Should I a) do this to my truck and buy a little crapper to get me around town.. b) buy an older jeep or ranger and mod that to hell or c)go with the Fabtech 6" and stick with a smaller tire (BOOOOO!!!!!)

HEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

that would be an awsome off road rig. Check out avalancheengr.com for some ideas. They custom make their own axles that are offset.

my guess would be do the f150. yes you wouldn't be able to drive it all the time but when you did...lookout. i doubt if there are very many out there yet, mostly due to cost, so you would be original. otherwise do the jeep, lots of parts available, body and motorwise. also very offroadable.
6" lift on your truck doesn't sound good. sounds like as soon as it was done you'd regret it because of your friends rig, so why waste the time. you'd just end up redoing it

Go big and buy something else to drive everyday. But just beware that riding on tall ones there not that good rock climbers. (Take it from me we rolled my old truck twice) But they sure are fun in the mud. My opinion a truck looks much better riding that high over a jeep.
