anyone had a propane conversion done

I've got a 99 4.6 lariat and a I was wondering if anyone has done anything with propane. The reason I need to know is I live in Scotland and gas is about 6 bucks a gallon. The propane is about half that price. I would be interested in any comments before I import a propane kit from the US. As the f150 is not available here the only way to get one is import it from the US. There is only one company in the UK that can even fit propane to a 150 and they have only ever done one, as they are so rare here. Any comments on the best kit or anybody who has had running time would be great

crazedf1 - a propane conversion is different on a gasoline truck vs. a diesel truck. On a gas truck, the conversion makes the truck run on propane only or allows running on gasoline or propane but not both at the same time. If I understand the diesel systems, its essentially like Nitrous is to gasoline engines. Many fleet users run vehicles on propane, primarily for clean emmissions reasons.

Do you have a local propane company?? Of course you do or you would not be intrested in the conversion. You might want to go and talk to them, chances are that all of their delivery trucks would run off of propane. They might be able to give you a first hand opnion of the changes in performance, and modification to the trucks. They also might be able to give you more local dealers of the conversion kits. Just a thought Cody

Propane has substantially less energy content per gallon... sorry, I was unable to find the precise numbers... but yu may wish to research this aspect of the conversion. Propane is cheaper but it doesn't get you as far. By including costs of conversion, you'll see how long your payoff period is.

I know that propane is a cleaner burning fuel -- so your engine will last longer using it. You might be able to get the parts you need from Ford. Its an option w/ the 5.4, but I'm sure you could figure out a way to make it work w/ the 4.6

Thanks for all the input. Ref FORD4FUN,the commercial users in Scotland use diesel. The propane option here is for economy as gas is about 6 US dollars per gallon and the propane is about half that. As the f150 is a very rare US import here there is only one propane conversion company who can do the work and they have only ever done 1 f150 ever. As you will probably guess his advise is limited. ( mostly non exsistant.) To give you an idea of how rare these are here, my last 2 f150's were 94 and 95 5.0ltr flareside ex cab customs and at that time to my knoledge there were only 5 in the country. The 2 I imported and the other 3.
