O/T - Free MAYA animation software
Saw this on TechTV.
Alias Wavefront, makers of the pro level animation software called MAYA, will be releasing a personal learning edition of their software.
You will get a FULLY functional version of MAYA with a few "tweaks" to prevent you from creating broadcast quality video. You will not be able to save in popular commercial file formats, and there will be some sort of watermark in your final rendered scene. According to AW, you will be able to model, animate, render, then save out to some other file formats (I think Quicktime was given as an example).
This offer could be interesting for hobbyists or amateur animators that want to try their skills out using what some of the pros use. MAYA has been used in a lot of movies - the most recent being Lord of the Rings.
