Correct me if I'm wrong, but....

What is up with this talk about Ford moving the jobs from Canada and the US to Mexico. I have searched the web and have not found any reports to confirm (or disafirm) this. If anyone has info to backup these statements, please post the link.

I agree with jmorrisonbc and gopher, a publicly held company has a duty to its investors (ie shareholders) to maximize earnings per share. Thats just part of this great country, yes it sucks sometimes, but what-a-ya-goin-do?

To all those losing their jobs, good luck in the future!

Suburbans, Focus', Neon's, Dodge Rams, Contour, the list goes on and on of vehicle made in Mexico. These latest closings are not going to result in plants moving to Mexico, yet. Time will tell.

Unhappy

I'm afraid that you have just had another taste of the world that we live in. When I started work, there were over 20 million people in the UK employed in the manufacturing industry. That number is now less than two million. For three decades, we have been happy to import more of our manufactured goods, but we now have relatively low unemployment again, as the service and financial industries have grown. The danger is that, if manufacturing falls much further, it will be unable to support the massive service sector, and many of the 'new' jobs will go.
Remember, its Americans who buy the trucks made in Mexico. If you are not happy........dont buy the trucks made from beans!!!

The facts are:

F-150's are made in 4 plants including one in Mexico.

Ontario truck runs only one shift and their toatl prodution per shift is lower than the other three plants. All OTP production will be rolled into the other 3 plants. End of story.

According to Canadian Auto Workers union, the Mexican truck plant workers make the same money (adjusted into US dollars) as OTP workers.

This was strictly the UAW winning out over the CAW which succeded from the UAW back in the '80's. Do any Canadians remeber Bob White and his own agenda? If the Canadians were still part of the UAW, this would probably not have happened.

Mexican workers make the same if adjusted. "If adjusted" is the key there. Ford and the others save BIG $$ paying them there instead of here or Canada.

Various thoughts

I can understand being upset about getting laid-off. I read wittom's statement about how the fatcats are tring to keep their pockets lined. They don't want to lose their jobs anymore than anyone else. The main difference is they are in a position to do something about it. The plain and simple truth is in a corporation it is all about the shareholders. If you don't like a policy of the corporation buy the stock and vote for the board. With a company as large and as well known as Ford a product boycott is unfeasible and not likely to succeed. With this in mind, your options are limited to sucking it up or buying stock and attemting to change something.

Just a few thoughts from someone who has never been accused of being too bright.
