purchase 1997 f150/f250
Hi
A relative is thinking of buying a 1997 4by4 f150
or f250 p/u. Any thoughts on the pros and cons?
I have been receiving the news bulletins for some
time and have noticed some problems with this model, ie - brakes, door cracks & leaking rear
windows. Would these problems be sufficient to
be cautious of buying a 1997???
Any comments would be appreciated

I have that truck
I have the same truck - check my sig! Yes there are some problems but nothing that would have swayed me from buying it. In fact I knew about the door cracks before I bought & still decided to get my truck last year, with cracks in both doors.
If you do a search you'll see that in most cases Ford is doing the fix free. As for the windows I believe many are also being replaced. When I look at some of the problems other models have I'd say the '97 is pretty well built.
As gasguzzler said, run a carfax - he has a free report you can use. Also get the VIN & have Ford give you a free Oasis report - it will tell you of any work done on the truck. Armed with that info they can make a more informed decision. The important factors are mileage, how well cared for the truck is - stuff like that.

I agree with Cowlady, these are great trucks! It has it's share of problems, but nothing that wouldn't make me buy another one tomorrow if I could! I love this truck, and I am wanting to buy a 2002 just like it, but I have to sell mine first. It's in the classifieds if ya wanna read more about it. Happy trucking!
