Salt and Sand Nightmare!

Got back yesterday from X-mas holidays in Northern Ontario (near Timmins)

My bright Red truck is very much white. I open my door and there is nothing but road sand in the sills.

But now its sub zero so I'm afraid to wash without the water getting in everywhere and freezing.

The truck is so dirty the Blue oval is solid black and brown (grill and tailgate)

I know the feeling

Try having a black truck & living in Buffalo! Mine is constantly dirty, I don't have a garage & even when I get to my Mom's I can't use hers since the truck doesn't fit!
Right now I don't have that problem though - my truck is entirely WHITE - buried under all that snow we got. I was thinking it's the perfect time to go out & clear random size/shaped spots off & see how the truck would look as a cow truck! Now if only I COULD get out & get close enough to the truck to do that!
Do you have a wet/dry vac that you can use to either blow the water out or try to vacuum it up from some of the spaces? Maybe that would help too! Good luck & whatever you do, stay away from Buffalo!

Hey CL,

I was watching the Weather Network while up north. I read about the first 3 feet you got and nearly spewed out my coffee. Then as if that wasn't bad enough, you got more.

Hope you get shoveled out soon. And be careful. We all realize that there are a few out there that can't drive in the snow ( makes it dangerous for the rest of us)

It may be unsightly but having a dirty truck when it is very cold isnt going to do much damage. It has to be warmer for corrosion to start. But if you cant put up with it being dirty ( I know I cant stand it ) find a touchless automatic car wash. One with a dryer and take some extra time running it on the doors. To ensure that you dont have any door freezing problems go to the hardware store and pick up some silicone spray and put it on the door seals. It keeps the water off and out of the seals so it wont freeze up. Also get some lock de-icer/lubricant and work it in there. I often times wash off my truck down to about 5 degrees without any problems.

MN4x4 has got it about the way I see it too. When its really cold, there isn't much that can be done. I'll wash my truck down to about 5 or 10 degrees. I've had too many problems with frozen locks when its colder than that and I don't have a heated garage to use.

Unfortunately, its a fact of life dealing with the salt around here.

I just got back from Parrysound ,I know what you mean about salt /sand and crap.Try a touchless carwash ,gets most of the crap off without the brushes hurting the paint. One thing ,we didn't get the snow Buffalo got !

I am along with MN4x4 and Gopher,
No use washing the truck when it is really cold, as you will just get it washed and have problems with the locks, and not only that, the minute you get on the road, if the truck is still damp, you will still get salt on it no matter what.
