Talking Radar Detectors

Just bought a Valentine 1 detector. What a super addition to my rig. I started with the original Escort back in the 80's and over the years I have used at one time or another most of the brands that were on the market( Whistler, Bel and Passport). I can tell you that this unit is top notch. Anybody else use one of these little jewels? From what I have read, this is the unit to have for serious speeders. Anybody else use one of these????

Now before I forget, I have to update my signature...

i think they're a waste of money. my brother has one and got caught doing 60 in a 25

so not only did he waste $80 on the radar detector, he also had to pay the ticket and got his license suspended

Thumbs up Got me a 5 dollar radar detector...

For a six pack of Old Milwaukee, my brother will stand in the bed with some binoculars.

Works pretty good early on as far as radar detectors go but, after I see about the fifth empty get chucked out, he ain't worth a hoot.

Cool CB beats a radar detector HANDS DOWN

I'll take a CB radio over a radar detector any day. Truckers tell you exactly where the smokey bears are hiding, and what they are doing. Plus, you can find out if there is a problem ahead and re-route yourself. Has saved me numerous times.

dunno....

Sometimes I really wonder if they are worth the
money. I've had several different models of the
Fox brand and all together they have maybe
saved me from 5 tickets. All the detectors cost
me more than that. The one I have now was a
Christmas present and it's still in the closet. I'll
agree with buckdropper though, they are a
definite ticket magnet. If a trooper eyes it during
a speeding stop, you are toast.

CB radios are great when your on the highway if you can stand listening to all those truckers all day long but from my expierence atleast there completely useless as soon as you get off the highway. As far as radar detectors being useless, I disagree. If anyone thinks they can go get a radar detector and drive anywhere they want as fast as they'd like, well in that case I guess you could say they are useless. Noone ever said there a license to speed! If the police are using Laser, and your driving all alone, he will have your speed as soon as your radar detector is going off. However, there are still a LOT of cops not useing Laser, and even if they are if there's anyone in front of you it will save you almost every time. I've had a radar detector for 7 years, and would replace it the next day if anything ever happened to it!

Yep. I should have mentioned my CB in my earlier post. I use a Ranger 2950DX right now along with my Escort 8500 r/d. Btw, don't get a 2950DX--high priced, great receiver, but horrible user-friendliness--you don't even want to change bands or frequencies. The Ranger 6900 is a great 'road' partner--gotta switch(it's in my f150xlt) it over to my L. You'd be glad you have your CB on(ch. 19--27.185) when that drunk up ahead of you causes a four-car wreck--just over the top of that hill just ahead.

Wow, you guys that think radar detectors are useless must not drive on the interstates very often. My Valentine usually keeps me out of trouble at least once a week. Although I do have to drive through about ten miles of road construction a day. Its definitely not a license to speed everywhere, but if you use it with other cars around you its a lifesaver.

I had 8+ tickets in three years before the Valentine and none this past year since I've had it. I got them all fixed but the people doing the fixing were sick of doing it so I had to try the V1. Glad I did.

Not For Me

I've never spent my money on one, I agree and have always figured if the Police see it you're done.

And, if you're not doing anything wrong, why do you need it.....

Well I just got a Cobra high end model, and i'm sold
CB's are fine on the hwy. but suck in the canyons. and out here in Calif.
just out side of LA the cops like to hide.
The Chips out here also have CB and I know for a fact that they have plenty of fun Playing trucker. Hopefully the detectors can give a fair warning. Going 60+ in a 25 does not take a radar to see your going a little fast.

Haven't you ever been just cruzing along an looked down and said damn I'm doing 80, not hard to do with OD. A detector will go off before you get to radar distance. In Calif. we have cameras all over the place and it tells you when they are on or off. Not that I make a habit of speeding but it does keep you in check. If anything it has made me more aware of all the radar detection in my area. All you have to do out here is be over a few mph and your toast.
