Thumbs up New to site....and Ford

Hi all. Nice looking site. Hope to learn a lot from you maniacs.

Just bought an F-150 XLT Supercab 4X4.
1998
4.6/auto
Pacific green pearl

I'm GM to the core but have wanted an F-150 after GM came out with the Silverado's. Never caught on for me. So far, i absolutely love this truck.

I know i'm not in forum but two quick questions.

How do i get the trim "ring" off around the stereo, and what's the biggest diameter and width tire can be put on a stock 4X4?
Thanks in advance.

I know i'm gonna like it here.

Post Upstate?

Hey blizzard, where exactly are you from. I'm originally from just south of Buffalo. For the ring, tilt in both ac ducts and grab a hold. If you have 4x4, don't pull out all that hard, you have to disconnect that as well as the passenger side air bag, then it just comes right off. As for tire size, you may be able to squeeze in 305/75R16 but I would stick with the 285/75/R16 size, they look good and don't rub at all.

Blizzard,

Welcome to the list. You have the answer for the trim. The biggest tires you can fit are the 285 75 R16s. you can get 305 70 R16s to fit if you crank the torsion bars to lift the fromt end. You will have to trim the front valance a little bit. I have 285 75 R 16s on the stock aluminum rims. The next set will be 305s.

Regards

Hi!

Hi Blizzard - nice to meet you! Former GM man? Well, you made the right decision - trust us! Over 17,000 members can't be wrong! The only downside to this site is you'll get SO many ideas it will be tough to decide which to do first!
Hope to see much more of you in the message boards & stop in chat some nite - we're there every nite around 9:30PM. I'm from Buffalo so who knows - maybe we're neighbors! I'd be happy to get some digital pics for you to post too - then you can show off your pride & joy here too!

Cool

Thanks everyone. I live outside of Syracuse.

I was looking for a truck for a while, gave up and decided to drive my '80 K-10 through another winter. It's a plow truck and not very freindly driving everyday anyway. After i woke up and realized time is too short to get it back in shape before it snows, i did an internet search and found the one i bought at my employers Ford store. I work for the Chevy store (body shop manager) in a different location.

I was never one to pick a side in a GM/Ford debate. I like them both. IMHO, there are only two American companies left, and thats what i'll be driving.

Cowlady, thanks, i'll send a pic this weekend, as you know it's supposed to be in the 50's so i can clean it nice. I'm just starting with a digital camera.

If any of you need Chevy help or info, please feel free to visit me at WWW.CHEVYTALK.COM. I'm the moderator of the third gen (82-92) Camaro forum, (i accually own a T/A) and believe it or not, i'm a co-moderator in the 99-up Silverado forum. Mostly because i work on them. It's a great site with members who have class, like this one, from the posts i've read. No bashing or 14 year olds mouthing off. It's a sad day today as we just learned of the death of a moderator at the age of 33.

Here's my list of projects:

'80K-10 4-speed, plow, my tractor
'72 Vista Cruiser 455, will not live life without.
'82 T/A 4-speed, notchback, owned for 15 years
'68 Firebird 350, had for 12 years, has never been on the road

Add to that the drivers:

'98 F-150 4x4 (it will be an on going project)
'84 Caprice, bought it for a rat, but now i don't know what to do with it.
'99 New Beatle, wifes car, i hate it,....she hates it, but she had to have it.

Right now, i want to drive nothing else but the F-150. I always liked them, but i really did'nt know how really nice they are. I'll always have one unless Ford decides to make them ugly.

Call me crazy, but i like the looks of the Thunderbolt.

Thanks again everyone.

Welcome to the boards, lots of great knowledge on here. To tell you the truth I agree with you. I may joke about the other brands of trucks out there but when it comes time to buy, brand is not a major factor for me. Infact (hope I don't get banned for this) I own a Chevy, but my heart resides with the Blue Oval in the drive.

I gotta question for ya on your wifes Beetle. My girlfreind has one and like your wife just had to have it. Problem is that hers uses oil, not leaking but burning it. Right now she is on 1000 mile oil consupmtions tests and it varies from test to test. Sometimes it 3/4 to full quart in 1000 miles other times it's only around a 1/4 qt. I was just wondering if you have noticed the same problem? Oh, yeah hers is the 2000 Beetle with the 2.0L, I have heard of a few others doing the same and was wondering.

Freak, i don't know. No one at the dealer has ever said anything to us about a low condition.

Ya see, i hate her car. I don't drive it, touch it, look at it. We have two girls, ages 5 and 8 and had to hear all about this car for 9 months while she was waiting for it to come in. Anyway, i thought it was thee most impractical car we could ever have with kids. It's a lease car too. I make her take it to the dealer for oil changes because for two years they were free, and i have my own little collection to take care of. Honestly, i think i opened the hood once when she first got it just to peek at it. We are both counting the days until the lease is up. In hindsite, i was right. It took her about 3 months before she realized i was right, an impractical car with way too many blind spots. It is however a quality piece. Interior pieces fall off from time to time, and the windows are junk, but otherwise probably the best new car you can buy under 20k. Sorry i can't help. I wonder if the oil runs out of my wifes car, it will get hot enough to burn to the ground before the motor quits. Ohh, did i say that out loud? LOL

hey blizzard: welcome to the board. i'm like you, had chevies but when the silverado came out it just didn't appeal to me.
the ring around the stereo should just pull out, i have a 4X4 and didn't have to disconnect anything. it is a little spooky at first to just pull a panel off. but it works if you use both hands to keep even pressure on both sides.

funny thing about those bugs. my neighbor has one, and i was talking to him about it. i expected to hear nothing but praise, instead i got an earful of "what a piece of junk". he can't wait to be free of his either.

lastly my g/f's son has an '86 camaro. poor kid that was the first car we found for him. actually he likes it alot but wants to get rid of it and would like to get a jeep, for pulling his snowmobile.

I have the same feeling about my girlfreinds too. She didn't lease hers but we are trying to find a way to fight our way out of it. No reason a new car should use almost any oil in 1000 miles. Her book even recommends 10000 mile changes (2.0L engine), yea right engine changes that is (jk). Count yourself lucky that it doesn't burn oil and you will be rid of it soon.

Cool

Most members of this sight suffer from extreme Ford overload. Be careful about asking about ideas or suggestions. The response may and often is overwelming. Also, you may notice an increase in overall pride in ownership as you drive your Ford around. You will quickly realize you had no idea so many Ford F-150's are on the road. Welcome to the sight, and remember take it slow and work into it gradually and you will enjoy this place.

Good luck.
