Question Mods & Warranty Work, help!

Happy Turkey Day everyone!!!

I have a similar post (better expressed) under "Engines" with the same title/topic.

I have to take my truck in for "Warranty" work (I have an extended warranty package I purchased from Ford). The mods I have installed are a K&N Generation II FIPK and K&N 3" S.S. Exhaust system. The Super Chip "Flip Chip" I have removed. Does having either of these items void my warranty? Should I re-install my factory air intake/filter system? Please, help? Anyone have to take their truck in for warranty work after installing these types of mods? Will I have to bite the bullet and pay for the repairs out of my own pocket?

Here's the problem I'm having. The truck stalls: when starting, when stopping at lights/stop signs (like when I stop after driving on the interstate for 20 miles), making a real slow turn in parking lots. It just won't idle sometimes. I have to drive with both feet to keep the engine running. I doesn't do this all the time, though. Some times it idles/runs normally after driving X? amount of miles. About half the time it starts and runs okay, but its been getting worse gradually. It first happened last August and then didn't happen again until late Sept. Now, about half the time. I'm going to be taking it in after I get some feedback here!

Thanks in advance for your comments.

The Cat-Back system and the FIPK can both cause valid warrantry problems for different parts of your truck. The Superchip cannot.

The FIPK may actually be the reason your truck is having problems. If the filter is over-oiled, this oil will coat the MAF sensor(Mass Air Flow) and cause the computer to sense an improper air/fuel reading. You can clean this with windex and a Q-tip.

Another possibility is the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) mounted on top of you throttle body. The next time your truck acts up, tap it with something like a screw driver.

Another could be the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system and a stuck EGR valve. It is supposed to close at idle and WOT to allow for a richer fuel mixture.

My money is on the IAC valve.

AJ,

The K&N Gen II FIPK System was just installed by me in April. I haven't had occassion to clean and re-oil it yet. I'll check the MAF sensor and I'm getting a code scanner on lone from a buddy to see if that shows anything. Thanks.

I bet on the IAC too

Do a quick seach and you'll find out how some people were actually able to clean these to fix their no-idle problem.

Good luck!

I'm not sure if you've heard about the laws regarding aftermarket but here goes...

If the mod caused the problem, Ford does not have to cover it. If the mod has nothing to do with the problem, Ford has to honor the warranty.

If the mod caused the problem, you have to go after the aftermarket manufacturer to cover repair costs of the vehicle (provided the mod is installed and operating with that manufacturers specified application)
