Just heard the news! I hope they find out soon if this is an accident or another ******* attack

 

At 9:15 AM, a plane has crashed in Queens, NY. Details are very sketchy but it appears the plane was outbound from JFK to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It went down in Rockaway, Queens - a residential area & so far, 4 buildings are reported to be on fire.
There is no evidence yet of a terrorist connection but until this investigation is completed they will not know for sure. All major airports are closed as are some major roads/highways. This is a Level 1 Emergency response. The plane was either an Airbus 300 or Boeing 767 & initial reports say it could carry up to 275 people. If it was truly n outgoing flight it means there was a full load of jet fuel on board.
Please say a prayer for all those aboard that flight as well as those on the ground who died & don't forget the already stressed rescue workers who will have to respond. Thanks.

Airbus 300, 246 passengers/9 Crew members... reports indicate that one engine fell off of the plane. Plane can fly with one engine, but not take off. Two crash sites, one where the plane went down, another where the engine landed......

This is pretty messed up.

That's a hell of a coincidence if a plane just happened to crash into NY after the terrorist attacks

 

Yes eph - I grew up in the Bronx & had many friends in & around Rockaway - I have no idea if any of the people on the ground were people I knew. I am just praying that as few people died as possible.
I hate to sound like an arrogant, close minded jerk but until they prove otherwise I consider this a terrorist action. It's true - that coincidence of a plane going down over NY is way too high. It would be SO easy to blow a plane out of the sky - they don't check the luggage that goes into the cargo hold closely enough. So, a would be terrorist, knowing they can't easily get aboard a plane with a weapon, only need check a bag with an explosive device in it & set it to go off at a predetermined time. As long as the damage is sufficient it will essentially blow the plane right out of the sky. I heard there were at least 2 delyas in the takeoff today so perhaps the intended target was Manhattan or another location but due to delays it went down in Queens instead.
I am NOT paranoid but after 9/11 when our own planes were used as bombs essentially, I wouldn't put ANYTHING past those animals. I'd rather err on the side of "caution" here & assume the worst than to throw caution to the wind & have this happen again. I don't know the definitive answer to air travel safety but dammit - SOMETHING needs to b e done & soon. If this WASN'T a terorist act how long before they use this tactic & try it on another flight?
Will this stop me from flying? NO! If you knew me you'd know that when someone tries to tell me I can't do something I go out of my way to prove I CAN! I will not let this scare me personally but I will admit - I worry about all those who work in this industry & I pray for them all the time. And now, my prayers are with all those who died today & the already stressed out FDNY & PDNY.

 

Cowlady, my thoughts are with you and your family. Seems like living in New York is pretty trying right now. Glad to see this hasn't deterred your spirit and you arent letting terrorist scum get the better of you.

My husband is Navy (CB) and will be leaving to Japan on the 5th of December. His flight will be going right over the ocean, across Siberia. A plane full of millitary men seems like a pretty solid target for some crazy madmen. Wish my conviction was as strong as some. If there was some way to have him not fly....I'd be the first to suggest it.

 

Thanks Lifted - I appreciate your kind thoughts. No I won't let them get me down & I hate to say it but I'd love the chance to personally get Osama myself. There isn't ANYTHING that I'd think was too cruel or inhumane that could be done to him.
As for your husband, I'll keep him in my prayers as I have all the people serving in the military. I'm willing to bet his plane will have fighter jets as "sky partners" & that means they'll be protected by the BEST in the world! I admire him too for serving in the Navy - my Dad served on the USS Missouri during Korea so although I respect all branches I have a soft spot for our sailors! Ask your husband to send home lots of pics IF he can - I'd love to see our Navy at it's best today!
