Windows ME?
If you are already running Windows 98 Second Edition I wouldn't waste the money on upgrading. I would save up for the Newest Microsoft OS they are coming out with, Windows XP. I have played around with all of MS operating systems. Right now, I am running a dual boot system using Windows ME and Windows 2000 Professional Edition. If you don't know too much about these OS's, I'll give a short summary. Windows 95/98/ME is mainly for the consumer. They are good for Multimedia, Gaming, and Basic Apps. Windows NT/2000 are used mainly for business's
purposes. They are used for Servers and heavily intense apps( CAD, 3D Rendering, etc). The main advantage 2000 has over 98/ME is stability and it also manages it's resources better (memory, etc..) But the drawback to 2000 is that most games are not supported until here recently. This is where Windows XP is suppose to be better, because it has the multimedia and gaming capabilities of 98/ME, but has the stability and resource managing like 2000.
I have Windows XP installed on another pc at my house. To me, the menus are cumbersome. But they can be changed to look like
the traditional layout. I really haven't had time to play around with it too much.
My favorite OS has to be Windows 2000 Professional though. I can leave it running multiple task and never have to worry about it giving you the Blue Screen of Death, or locking up. But the only reason I have kept ME installed is because of a few games 2000 won't play. Plus my framerates in Quake III drop 10-20 when I run it in 2000. (Avg framerate are around 130-140fps).
Let me know if you want more info, because I have plenty of links and docs I can send you.
Sorry for the the improper English, getting very tired and I have to go to work in a few hours.

Windows 95
I guess I should have specified I'm running Windows 95 at home. I've been offered 98 or ME, just wondering if it's worth it to change up.
I read the links also , thanks...

in my computer at school i had 98 and got a free upgrade to ME, and after instaiing it, it gave me nothing but problems. some drivers wouldnt work, and it would crash a lot more than 98. i then went back to 98 and i havent had 1 problem since. im not saying ME is bad, im just saying that i had bad luck with it.

I have worked, played, and sold all the version's latest versions of WIndows me from WIN95 to ME/2000. I have to say that if you don't play games and want a stable system to run WIN 2000 Pro. If you want just the opposite (able to run more games and devices) go to WIN ME. You said you were offered Win ME, if some how you are getting it for free (shame on you) I would say get the latest release you can. I personally run ME, it does crash every now and then but always boots back up. I love the system restore feature that is on there now. It's saved my butt a couple of times. Never had problems running anything and seems to be fast on my computer. I would reccommend using at least 600 mhz, 128mb ram, and 4mb video.
WindowsMe is the biggest piece of crap that ever came out of redmond. DO NOT INSTALL IT ON ANY COMPUTER!!!!
However, if you are looking to upgrade windows, and your box has enough horsepower, then go to XP, it is EXCELLENT. I've been using the release candidate 2 for 3 months now and I havent had one crash, freezeup or any typical windows problem. Programs crash but they have not brought XP down with it. And I run my XP box 24/7.

I had 98 2nd edition and upgraded to me. It gave me nothing but problems...over and over and over. I ditched it and got back to 98 2nd edition and no problems whatsoever. I wish I had my money and my wasted time back. IMO it sucked.
I've been using Windows ME since April when I bought my new computer I was still using Windows 95 on my old computer so far everthing been running fine with Windows ME and I like it better than 95.
