Calling all Houston area guys!!!

I am in need of some help. I recently bought a truck and want to fix it up a bit. Nothing extreme, since this will be my wife's in another 6 months (after we get married). I was thinknig about some nice wheels and tires, maybe lowering it a bit with some suspension upgrades? Anyone know of a good place to have any of this done in Houston? I guess I could order stuff and do it myself, but I don't really want to mess with it.

When I had my mustang we would have tech days, where we would all meet at someones house and install stuff on each others cars. Really cool idea.

Thanks All....

Houston (Cypress actually...)

02XLT,

I'm in Houston, NW side off 290.

I've done most of my mods on my own. Haven't made it into the exhaust/computer yet. Interested in hearing a few exhausts to see what sounds "right" to me.

Would also be interested to hear "who say what" about the shops around town. There are enough of them around.

add me to the list...

Thumbs up

I go to a shop called Bullet Customs. I'm not sure of the extent of the work that they do, but what I've seen looks good. They sell wheels up to 22's right now, and he can order almost anthing you want. It's not a big time shop, yet, but they are very F-150 friendly. Everytime I pull up there are at least two nice 150's there It's also family owned, so they actually care about their customers. They are located at the corner of Irvington and Berry roads in the Houston north side. I don't have their # with me right now, but they are probably in the business pages. Good luck, and have fun modifying,,,,,98

To each his own, but why in the world would anyone ruin a perfectly good pickup truck by lowering the suspension? "Upgrade"? Downgrade is more like it. I have yet to see a lowered truck that didn't have some sort of problem whether it be funky handling, limited turn radius, decreased load capacity, bottoming out, or all of the above.

There is a dude in the neighborhood where I work that lowered his F150 Sport. He has to put on the brakes on a _paved_ road when he goes over the bumps to avoid bottoming out. I hit the railroad tracks at 45, he hits them at 5.

Just doesn't make any sense to me.

BeastRider--

I am not talking about something drastic like lowering it that low. I meant maybe a 1 inch drop or evening out the back. The truck handles like *** when you hit a bump on a turn. I am not talking about driving it like a mad man. I don't think I have ever mashed the gas in the truck. I was looking for a better ride (like the Lightnings) I don't see what makes you think that is a downgrade?? How do you explain all the companies and sports car makers out there that put lower suspension and sport springs on cars and trucks?? If it was a downgrade why do Lightnings not sit on my stock suspension? You see what I am saying? I am not trying to drop my truck to the ground or anything.

Honestly I probably won't do anything to it besides replace my 235/70/16 with some 255/70/16 next tire change.

Why would anyone "lift" a perfectly good truck? It makes it impossible to put anything in the bed, your headlights won't aim correctly, and not to mention you can't get into the the thing if you do. It goes both ways, and it is "his" truck. If you're not helping, why bother? Alot of slammed trucks have airbags, which actually increase the carrying capacity. I know, lowering alone can hurt it, but most who go that low use bags. A one or or two inch lowering is not going to change the capacity that much, all it does is raise the spring mounts.
I'm about to do a set of rear shackles, and maybe later I'll get some two inch front springs. Also in the near future, I'm going to bolt on some 17" factory wheels with 275/60's. Maybe I'll get a rear anti-sway bar too Handling improves with a mild lowering, it lowers the center of gravity.,,,,98

the lightning sit lower as does the harley truck. i dont think they look to bad. just dont go crazy, 2" in the front 3 to 4" in the back. i lowered a chev with drop spindles and sprong relocator and it road and the same. it is when you lower 5" or more that you fu$k up the ride, tires and usability of the truck. i laugh when i see lowered trucks and the tires sit at an angle and not staight up and down.

Ok I'll help you out here....since everyone else is just jabber jawwing....

Terra Motive: 281-496-1415, 12650 Goar Road. Houston,Tx 77077

Street Performance: 713-462-2104, 13504 Hempstead Hwy. Suite F (mostly deal with stangs but will work with u on almost anything....talk to Nick and stay away from Jason...just a lil advice)

Altered Toyz. Dont have there info but they deal in lowering and so forth.

Competition Sales: 7702 Long Point, 713-686-7890
8902 North Frwy. (45): 281-820-2970

Theres also a place called 4x4 Unlimited on 1960 right pass Kurkhundal if ur going towards (45). Even though its called 4x4 Unlimited they will still do lowering. Stay away from USA Conversions, the guys over there are tottal ******. Also try these people I've heard nothing but good things about them http://www.strictlypro.com/ also u might want to try Houston Performance on 249. Good luck and I hope this helps.
