Summary: 1500HD vs SuperCrew (TT Article)

This was a test between:

01' Ford F150 SuperCrew w/ 5.4l
and
01' Chevy 1500 HD w/ 6L

They made some good points, the Ford had a better ride and what not.

What made NO sense was this: They stated the Ford beat the Chevy in all aspects of acceleration. Ok, cool.

BUT:
It soon became obvious the Ford was clearly engineered for keeping up with road traffic, while the Chevy was tuned for towing a big trailer or a heavy payload
Im sorry, that is totally backwards. Almost everyknow here knows Chevy designs their engines for stop light racing, look at the HP figures. Ford makes their gassers for torque (down low!). Come on TT, that was a STUPID statement.

Ford 0-60: 8.8
Chevy 0-60: 9.4

Ford 1/4mile: 16.4@83.4 MPH
Chevy 1/4mile: 16.9@84.5MPH

(note: Chevy was just 100 pounds heavier) Ford had 3:55 and Chevy has 3:73. Ford braked 5 feet better from 60-0. The Chevy took thru the cones a tad better, at 56.4mph compared to the ford's 54.5mph.

Chevy was longer, Ford was wider and had a better turning radius.

They infact compared apples to oranges. Instead of grabbing the 7700 payload, they take a SuperCrew which doesnt have much payload and compare it to a 1500 HD. Come on TT, stupid idea AGAIN.

Heres the report card.

Chevy/Ford

Power: B+/A- (HELL YES, GO 5.4l!)
Refinement: B+/A-
Styling and Design: B+/A-
Long-distance Comfort: A-/A
Handling, unloaded: B-/A
Handling, loaded: A/B
Interior Amenities: A/B+
Instrumentation: A/A-
Visibility: B+/A
Value: A-/A

Winner: Ford. Proved its motor is a beast and can take on a larger motor, loaded or non. Ford got better gas milage.

Good match, good article. Very good read.

The Ford had better mileage than the Chevy? That alone is an accomplishment.
