What makes a vehicle a "Classic"?

Looking for opinion as well as factual data about what makes a vehicle a "classic" and worthy of being restored? Is it just age? Rarity? Ie why are late 60's and 70's Ford trucks considered classics and worth restoration, but a '98 F150 isn't?
