Well, so far I haven't been able to make myself write the big check. I test drove a King Cab Frontier and I like the truck. A couple of out of town dealers offered one the color I wanted at a decent price. But in order to rationalize buying it I should sell my old truck and Hemi Magnum and I'm not sure I want to get rid of my hot rod Magnum. I'm 5' 10" tall with a 29" inseam and I had about 5" of room above my head so it appears to have plenty of head room for me. It is quiet on the road at interstate speeds. The seating position seemed about the same as my 02F150..... Since I retired, I don't drive that much but we like to take the truck on vacations out west so we can go off road when we want to. I drove my old F150 on a 6,125 mile trip this summer to Montana and Wyoming. I'm too cheap I guess! Ha!

Well, since you’re retired, I’d be hesitant to write a check for a new vehicle unless you had the cash required to buy it already sitting in your checkbook! No sense cashing out investments at their “caronavirus low” to make a discretionary purchase like a new truck! I’m just hoping I’m far enough away from retirement to make this nasty market dip seem like a non-event in my overall retirement strategy!

This was the local ad in the above string of emails. You can see what we pay in the ROC.

Starts out with a King Cab photo and says it's a Crew. I'd try to hold out for even lower prices.

You never know what the out the door price is until you find out what rebates you qualify for and all the adders like doc fees and dealer added options such as tinting and other bs charges like nitrogen filled tires. A couple of out of town dealers gave me a good price for what I wanted. So far I just haven't been able to convince myself to do it. The local dealer won't give me a good price. I suppose he finds enough suckers in this area that he doesn't have to.

Well, one of the out of town dealers, about 5 hours driving time away, kept calling an sweetening the deal. The last time was yesterday when I was on I40 cruising at 80mph. The initial deal was as good as any other dealer around here. So, after thinking about it overnight, I callled him back today and said I was ready to buy. The response was, I'm not sure we can do that deal today. So, he checked with his manager and they claimed the Nissan incentives had changed and they were now charging more. So, I had to tell them to have a nice day and hung up. Go figure.

I strongly suspect that even if you had driven over there yesterday, the deal still would have changed when you got there.

I think you are right about that especially since that last price incuded a higher trade-in for my truck that they also backed away from today. I won't be trading because I'm sure I could sell my truck quickly. I hate dealing with car salespeople. Auto marketing is getting sneakier and sneakier with all the different discounts where nobody qualifies for all of them and the bs adders like doc fees and dealer added options. Best to keep what you have until it falls apart. I don't drive my truck that much any more since I'm retired and I also have the Magnum to drive. But, we like to drive the truck on vacation like the 6k mile trip to Montana last September. It has 163k miles on it. Maybe it'll go another 50k.

Since you don't drive much, have you considered a used Frontier? Enterprise Rentals has quite a few for sale down here. Most are white, around 30-40,000 miles for around 20 grand. Had a couple of 4x4's too. Seemed like most of them were SV models. I didn't really look at what they had since I was looking for a car for a lady friend. Might be just the ticket. For your area, put in your zip code and take a look.

Thanks for the link but all the 4x4s are crew cab. I want a king cab for the longer bed and a little storage area behind the front seats. A new SV 4x4 king cab appears to be about $27,500 out the door so the prices aren't that bad for a new one. About a grand more if you want the "value truck package".

Thanks for the suggestions! So, 2019 is the best one to get so far? I don’t like the 2022 edition because it has a too-massive front end. But about 2021?
I need to find a good car for work and for driving my kids around. Such a truck seems to be the best option for both needs. I will set my r34 skyline for sale soon and look for a good offer in my area. I hope to find a used one because I don’t have that much money for a new one. What do you recommend looking at in a used Frontier in the first place? What’s the most problematic part of this car?

2019 was the last year for the 4.0 V6.
