Would anyone consider a 4.6 Mid-size Ranger (due in 2004)?
Where did you hear this?!? That is exactly what I've been hoping Ford would build in the future. I have heard that the Ranger will be wider overall after the next redesign which makes sense since the 4.6 is too wide to fit in the current Ranger. BUT, if they DO build it, I hope they don't make the V8 available only with certain other options. For example, "4.6 only available in Supercab XLT 4x4s" or something like that. My personal choice would be a Regular Cab SB 4x4. I've just got this thing for regular cabs.
Anyway, I hope happens. It would seem that Ford will need some kind of upgrade in the motor department to compete in the compact/midsize market. The Dakota already has V8s and the S-10 reportedly will be replaced with a mid-size in the next couple of years. Seems like I saw somewhere that the S-10 replacement will likely get GM's new 4.2 I-6. Both the Dakota's 4.7 and GM's 4.2 are out of the 4.0's league power-wise. The way I see it, the Ranger NEEDS a V8!!
Maybe that's wishful thinking, but I sure hope not. Then there's the problem of how to afford one if they do build it... Oh well, I guess I shouldn't worry about it just yet. Have a good one.
