Texas Mile this weekend

If you like watching high speed racing to see who can go the fastest, this is your kinda racing. The Texas Mile is being broadcast thru Facebook live. Search for the Texas Mile on Facebook and watch the races free. So far today, a motorcycle is the fastest turning 260 mph in the mile. The fastest time ever is by a Ford GT 40 turning in 299.9mph last year. The GT 40's are back waiting their turn.

I think you'll find it was a Ford GT, not a GT 40. (The GT 40 is the original model that won Le Mans.) Still, it was one hell of a wicked fast Ford!

I thought the GT broke the 300 mark last year?

When we were there last year, the GT ran 299.9 MPH. They're wanting to call it 300 to get attraction. They had another motorcycle run 299.9 yesterday. But neither could scratch out the "magic" 300. For me, this years "wow" factor car was a BMW wagon at 268 mph.....and that's a straight 6 turboed. For the funny factor, the Hellcats are a joke. NONE have hit 200 yet. I think the best one was 178 mph and most were not above 160. LOTS of Vettes this year. An impressive one was a guy from Dallas that was real squirrelly off the line and finally got a grip, hit second gear and as the engine built rpm, the tires started to smoke. He was already over 100 mph when that happened. Seeing cars with over 1000 HP is pretty common this year. LOTS of people with far too much money chasing the magic numbers. And if you're a Caddy lover, you'll be in hog heaven. LOTS of Caddies turning some mighty tall numbers. Obviously none of the cars are stock.

Just talked with bunch I was with last year. Seems they disallowed the 299 mph motorcycle and the BMW wagon. I don't have a clue why but the fastest bike was 277 for the weekend. More than likely you'll be able to watch video for the next few weeks on Facebook website. If you ever get to go to these races, great people, fabulous cars, and a fun time is there to be had. You can easily go into motorhead overload.
