Trying to figure out towing capacity of a potential 2005 F150
Hi everyone,
My hubby and I are looking at a 2005 F150 Supercab, 4x4, has a 5.4 V8. We are brand new to towing and plan to purchase a lightweight travel trailer. I’m finding conflicting information about the B6 axle code on the door sticker - I was confident in my internet studying of codes that it was 3:73 and with a 145 WB code (presumably the 144.5 wheelbase) we would have 9300 towing capacity, minus 500lbs for the 18 inch wheels. But I’ve since found both 3:55 and 3:73 for the B6 result in one of the online charts and some online specs also say 3:55 and am now totally confused. Towing capacity is about 1000lbs in the difference so we would love to have clarity. Salesperson was not that helpful and didn’t really know the answer. Would love to know how to find out, or what to actually ask the salesman. (not a Ford dealership)
Thanks so much. Excuse the ignorance that this post may be showing!
Thank you!!

B6 is definitely 3.73, and it's limited slip. 3.55 codes end in 9.
Note that you will most likely exceed the truck's payload capacity before you reach the max tow figure. Also, if the engine is not quiet, if it's doing any clicking, take a pass on it, the VCT system on the 5.4 3 valve can get expensive to repair. Spark plug changes can get expensive too.

Why is that?
I've been towing stuff for over 40 years and have never owned or towed with a diesel?
Lots of different gas powered trucks that can tow any number of different kinds of trailers..
Sure, if you are looking at some 15k GVWR 5th wheel, yes a diesel dually would fit the bill just fine..
It just does not sound like the OP is looking for that kind of RV?
Guess I should get a Kenworth to tow my little TT...
