Grammar II - from the South

After throughly enjoying the previous posts regarding the proper use of grammar, I wanted to test the following......

1) Do y'all drive a Ford truck?

2) Do ya'll drive a Ford truck?

2 questions.
1) Is y'all/ya'll singular or plural?
2) Which spelling is correct? "y'all" or "ya'll"?

Let's see who is a redneck.......

1) Pretty sure it's plural, the singular expression would be "you'ns".

2) Rednecks don't take much stock in spellin' and such.

in ANY contraction, the apostrophe takes the place of any missing letters. therefore: "y'all" is correct, "ya'll" is incorrect because y'all is the contraction for "you all".

plural of y'all is "all y'all".

lived in the south for years...

Pretty good Raoul. Have you spent much time in the south?
I was "always lernt that" it could be singular or plural. It is acceptable to ask to one person or a group.

Imagine walking into someone residence (house, trailer, apartment) and asking the following question.
"Y'all got any beer?" Perfectly acceptable if there is one or many in the residence. The beer could belong to someone not in the residence at that time.

And your right. Spellin' ain't that important. The one thing that is important to rednecks...

"I love my truck"

That would be "you're" for "You are " or y'all'er
Or maybe yur(s) southern for the possesive "your"

A different twist.....

Here's one I can't stand.

I've got a sister in law in Minnesota that always says
"YOU GUYS". AAAAGGGGGHHHH! Drives this redneck crazy.

"YOU GUYS" AAAGHH! I can almost hear her talking to me. Good thing she only visits us in the winter where it isn't so freaking cold here. Won't come down in August. Wimp.

(This post not meant to **** off anyone for Minnesota or anyone who is a sister in law, either....unless you ARE my sister in law from Minnesota)

hahaha,,,I just remembered another curious language thing from west PA.
When they say things that require two words that go together, they take the last letter of the first word, and attach it to the beginning of the second word. Something like this....(plastic craplastic wrap) and (living groom:living room). That always got me giggling. Of course they also laughed at me when I let a "y'all" slip out,,,,98
