Talking Finally?

I'm confused... I don't know how they could finally have gone mad... I've always considered them that way...

yep

I was gonna use that *A* word too, but didn't know how everyone would react. When I was a kid I was forced to go to church (until I ws 15) until my parents thought I was old enough to make my own decisions about these kind of things and obviously I chose the other road.If you look into our past, you notice a strage pattern revolving around differnt versions of the bible.Every time there was a new world power (king, queen, country, whatever) a new version was written adding different rules and taking away whatever the particular ruler didn't deem necassary. It has been changed so many times that most of the original meaning is gone. I read somewhere that the bible contradicts itself quite a few times (over 100).Personally I think the bible is one of the best stories ever written but it is just that a story.Anyway I am done with my rant for now.
* once again I don't mean to offend anyone I am just expressing my personal opinion on religon as a whole.

The Bible does not contradict itself once. That is a lie that is passed down from generation to generation. I hear that same statement from atheists all the time but they can never tell me where the contradictions are. So please dont relay something you "hear"as fact. It is a disservice to everyone. This is America and I support your right to believe what you want to believe. As far as Pat and Jerry go, they are humans and make mistakes. I believe that they have again in this instance. That is why I dont pay any attention to televangelists. It is too easy for them to get corrupted by the $$ coming in every day. There are honest ones but it seems they are few and far between. The Bible has many stories that are supported by eyewitnesses. Jesus walked on water, fact. I always say, try to follow your faith and not the preacher or pope or any other human. They will eventually let you down.

Talking Oh boy!

I don't think a semantical debate on the bible is appropriate here... Let's all keep this in mind... The bible should never considered to be 100% factual... It is a fact that is has undergone several re-writes and translations over the centuries and with that comes the perpensity for error.

That's all I have to say, because the rest as they say is history..

Anyhow, where were we.. Oh yeah, these mad-man televangelist criminals... The one who really scares me is Jack VanImpe.. I've had the misfortune to channel surf onto one of his shows.. What's funny is that the show was an "infomercial" listed on the guide as a paid program. Credibility?? What's that??

You say the Bible should not be considered 100% fact. Based on what? Opinions? Truth is most people that stake these claims have not even read most of it for themselves. Not so long ago I was an agnostic looking for answers. The world was not created by a pie in the sky "big bang" theory. The Bible is the only place that has a credible answer supported by scientific evidence and not theories. Good luck in finding your answers, if you care to seek them. No hard feelings here just ideas...

Oops I opened up a can of worms on this one

I have to agree with Y2k offroad, this is not really the place for this type of discussion. With that lets just say that everyone is entitled to believe what the want and none of us will ever know who is right, until we pass away.Have a nice day

Talking

We all have our own views regarding what is in the bible, and neither is right or wrong. That is why we call it faith...

Unhappy

Okay Steve, time to step in. Somehow I knew this thread would go horribly wrong It was meant as a commentary on Televangelists only, but it's turned into an arguement on the bible. What's that old saying,Two things you never
discuss in mixed company(religion and politics)sigh,,,,,98

I don't think a lockdown is called for (yet) This forum is bound to have some differences of opinion being the large diverse group that we are. No name calling or insults have been thrown (yet) other than the two in the subject line, and we all agree there, that they are hipocrites and give religion a bad name.
I think this has been one of the most peaceful aguments mentioning religion I have seen in awhile.
Lets just keep it that way.

I agree. There's no mud being slung here. We're all Americans with different views. Like the old saying, "If we were all the same, life would be boring".
