Here's an idea!
I don't have the resources, skills, or capabilities to do this, but my girlfriend and I both thought about setting up some sort of fund to provide assistance. Maybe one of you guys has the ability to do this, or even the webmaster here could help get it going. Our thoughts were to sell ribbons to attach to our antennas or for even larger donations, bow to attach to the grills of our vehicles to support our fallen. All proceeds could be given to the Red Cross, or any other relief fund to assist those who need it. I know there are a lot of people who have given blood, and I myself would love to if it weren't for the three or four hour wait to do so. I think this would be a great way for all of us here with F-150online to show our support and help donate to a greater cause. Just figure with approx 10,000 members here at $2 a ribbon, there's a $20,000 donation. Or with a $5 bow, there's $50K to help out. Like I said, I don't have to ability to co-ordinate this type of thing, so assistance would be nice. Websites could be set up to go beyond just our community to gain further assistance from fellow Americans.
What do you guys think? Is there anyone who maybe could do something like this, or assist others in doing this?
Thanks
Adam

Awesome idea!
What a great idea! I think it would be a most beautiful tribute to those who have died & to the rescurers trying to save them. I'm not very skilled at this either but hopefully somone here can step up to get this going!
Are there any attorney's here who can advise us? Maybe a financial planner who can tell us how to set up an account? I'm sure we have someone in these professions who would be able to help. Let's do this!

I know the radio stations here in Houston are doing the same. The difference is that they only do good here locally. If something can be set up and distributed through this site, it literally becomes nationwide with ALL of our support. It really doesn't matter if there are a thousand different groups distributing ribbons for donations. We would all be doing the same thing. It is just a way for us as members of this board to support those who need us. The ideas for a bow or something on the grill is something I haven't ever seen done.
Cowlady,
Thanks for the support! Maybe you could contact the webmaster here. If I'm not mistaken, you deal with him much more that I do. (Unless of course he's reading this)
Andthensometoo,
I am sure there are those who would like to donate through you. Thank you for the input.
Come on Guys, there has to be someone here willing to help us!?!

fellow coworkers and myself have been discuusing an idea. we will be printing shirts that will be navy blue. on the front it will have the police dept of ny badge with "finest" underneath over the left breast. on the right breast it will have the fire dept badge with "bravest". on the back it will say "in memory of new yorks finest, bravest and americans who lost there lives. Sept 11, 2001"
the proceeds will go 1/2 to the nyc fire dept fund and the other half to the patrolmans fund. possibly another fund if we can get in touch with one. possibly the red cross.
if anyone is interested please email me at curt73@aol.com
we are looking for some support in doing this. thanks curt

Count me in!
I love the T Shirt idea Curt - let me know when I can order & how much ok? I'll probably get 2 - 1 for my brother in law who's a volunteer firefighter & 1 for me.
ATST - I'm making my donation as soon as I finish this post. Thanks for making it so easy & don't worry about posting my ID - I don't need to be thanked - it's the least I can do.
Adam - I'm hoping that either Steve or someone who has the legal/financial expertise will come forward & help us out. I'll assist them if they do but I don't feel qualified enough to tackle this project myself. If ANYONE feels they can offer the necessary advice we need, PLEASE let us know!
It's so incredibly heart warming to see the support & caring all you guys have for the victims & the rescuers. I am SO proud of all of you! I'm proud to consider you all my friends! Thank you & God Bless!

nothing against ribbons or bows or shirts or anything, but why must people be given something in return for a gift? Why don't they just give because they know it is right? I dropped off a check at the local red cross that was all I could afford and then some. I didn't do it to get anything in return, but because it was right. One of the local jeep clubs here in town was selling stickers regarding the event with proceeds going to the red cross, but the minimum donation (which I'm sure lots of people gave) was only $5, which while it's good, after costs of stickers and postage, is next to nothing.
However, if it would help those that otherwise wouldn't donate, I'm all for it, I just think people should give no matter what they are receiving in return.

matt...
i understand what you are saying ..but...if i am not mistaken the people who are getting things like shirts or ribbons are doing it not for a gift but to have something to show their support for everyone who is risking their lives and or lost their lives in this horrible tragedy...i think it is a way to unit and show support not to be paying for a gift...if someone is trying to make money off of this or getting them for gifts you are a horrible person and i surely doubt any of us would do such a thing

Thanks Paxton, it couldn't have been said better.
The way I see it, I know someone like Wal-mart would be more than willing to donate the materials, it would then be up to us to cut and distribute them. Even if the material had to be bought, you can easily buy the ribbon for $.02-.05 a foot. You'd be talking about $1.95 donation for every ribbon.
Like Paxton said, it is not a matter of getting something in return, it is about showing our loyalty and support to our country and comrades.
Have you ever driven with your lights on at a funeral? It is your way of showing your respect to the dead. The ribbons are our way of showing our respect to the thousands of those who need it most.
Have you ever bought fireworks or an American Flag? Same deal here, you are showing respect to those who died so that we could live in a free nation.
It doesn't matter if there are ribbons or bows, or T-shirts, the only thing that does matter is that the donations get where they need to go, and serve the purpose they were intended. Even a collection through the online store here taken and given to the charities would be sufficient enough. It was also just a thought to have this online community come together and help support a greater cause.

I'm impressed...
I went to Target.com and their home page has been replaced with a disaster relief page. It's nice to know our country can pull together so well so quickly.
I live in the city and have a family of city workers. We all are blue collar workers. the reason for shirts is in the city any fallen hero regardless of what dept. he/she is in, has gotten a shirt to remember them by. There are way to many people to single out and that is why it will be general. My family as well as my nieghbors dedicated and also donated a surburban to the FDNY burn unit. It was for family of burn victims who are on the job to get to and from the hospital and home when something herrendous happens. Chevy is what the fdny uses. That is all.
It show's our support and also show's that we will never forget the price these people or even hero's paid. I am patriot, very proud american. I WILL WEAR MY SHIRT WITH PRIDE, AS WELL AS EVERY 9/11 FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE OR TILL THE SHIRT FALLS APART WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. CURT
I CAN ALSO ASSURE ANYONE INTERESTED IN MY IDEA THE FUNDS WILL GO TO THOSE FUNDS. I WILL SHOW ANY RECORDS DONATORS WISH TO SEE. MY GOAL IS TO HELP, NOT GAIN!!!!!!!!
