Those 62 Impalas were awesome! Brand new with 4 speed and 300 327 the sticker was in the range of $3300. My brand new 65 Chevelle with 300 327, 4 speed, eaton posi, factory tach stickered at $3098. Of course the minimum wage was less than $1.50 at that time.

so $3300 seems dirt cheap. plug it into an inflation calculator.

then go to chevy website and look up cost of a new malibu.

granted the malibu has a 4 banger and the chevy had a 327 v-8. i think the new malibu would out run it.

i would guess it is a number 2 car.

Yeah -- in looking at those descriptions, I would say that it is a #2 car as well. I've never seen car values put into a timeline like that before -- I thought it was odd there was this big bump in values as you moved from late-2012 into early-2013.....

I sold the '62 Impala in May of '66 and got the GTO I had ordered...389 with 3 dueces..4 speed and a 3.90 rear. List was $3700 and I bought it for $3200.

Mickey Thompson wheels with Casler cheater slicks on the rear.

Spun out in the rain with the slicks so I put some Prowler Eliminator tires on front and rear.

Got too many ticket's with it....was about to lose my licence and insurance so I sold the GTO in August of 1969 and bought my Dad's '68 LeMans with a 350 and automatic tranny with air conditioning. No more ticket's either. Wish I would have kept the car and stored it....probably would have been worth at least 50 to 70K with the options I ordered.

I lost my drivers license from speeding too many times with my 65 Chevelle 300hp 327 4speed. I put 100k miles on it in 4 years and I didn't have a license for 7 months of that time. Sold it when the Army shipped me to South Korea. Would I want it back now to keep. Nope. It was a bare bones car, no PS, PW, AC with drum brakes and crappy handling. I'm a wuss now! Ha! I have seen recently this white 2004 Corvette convertible with a tan top sitting on a car lot that I'm tempted to go look at. I might could let my hemi Magnum go for that.

Same thing with my car...I ordered it with the quick steering and handling pkg. That was manual steering with a quicker steering ratio...finned brake drums with metallic brakes. I also had the transistor ignition and the rare rear power antenna. AM radio with factory reverb that made the AM radio sound great with front and rear speakers. I later put an Isky 310 hydraulic cam and kit and had the heads re-worked and used 421 head gaskets that were a little thinner. I went with MT 4 tube headers and a Lakewood bellhousing. Opened the hood air intake into the Ram air airbox. Running SS/C the best I ran was 12.7 @109 mph. and this car was my daily driver. Put over 50K miles in 3 yrs. Too bad I let it get away!

I've learned from all you 60's era gray heads to never let my "babies" get away! Ain't no way I'm giving up my toy cars unless the situation is extremely grave!

You grow up and realize it just gets you into trouble. I got 3 speeding tickets within 6 months when I lost my license, one of which was for 88 in a 55. I was obsessed with speed back then. 16 months in Korea stationed on a missile site way out in the middle of the rice paddies calmed me down. When I got back I went to college and got an engineering degree and settled down a bit. When you have a wife and kids to take care of it sort of changes the priorities. I still like some power under my foot but I don't care to run 140 any more. I've never been a collector. I use and abuse what I have.

I think what got me was having a few outstanding speeding tickets from the state police. I applied to join the Louisiana State Police at age 21 and they probably did a background check and found the ticket's. Needless to say I didn't get the job! I ended up paying the ticket's...got my record clear and joined the Air National Guard for 6 yrs. Only received one moving violation in the last 40+ years.

It seems a little weird that speeding tickets would keep you from being hired by the state police since they speed most of the time whether or not they have a reason. But that is the way it is. When is the last time you saw a cop driving the speed limit?

It probably wasn't getting the ticket's it was probably not paying them...in the days before computers it took awhile for them to catch someone. I probably could have taught them a few things about driving and I'm sure I would have fit right in with the speeding troopers. I later ended up going to work for Texaco and ended up being a company driver and logged close to a million miles without an accident. In fact I've never had a chargeable accident since I've been driving starting back in 1962.
