Anyone testing Windows XP
Just loaded it, Could not believe that it did not have drivers for a Olicom 10/100 ISA card. So then I decided to test it on a laptop and again to my surprise that there were no drivers for my Linksys Wireless adapter. I attempted to use the NT drivers for the Olicom card and it still did not work.
So I have not played with it yet. It wasn't worth playing IRQ shuffle to put in a my 3c905 card so I just put my ghost image of win98 back on.

The first shot of heroin is always free...I can't see supporting a company that has been convicted of anti-competitive tactics to support it's monopolistic agenda. Other than that, put me down for no opinion.

I have to agree with both of you, BUT I just had to see for myself what Microsoft was trying to force feed us. I bought into the WinME and it was the worst 25.00 I have ever spent.... Lucky that is all I spent on it.
You noticed that Win98se is back on the system and the system that is the most important in the house is a Linux box running my DNS Server....

If you want to call it testing, ive seen many computers testing it. XP is very picky on what drivers it uses because it is a new program. It is not a 9X redone like 98 or ME. XP only has drivers that have passed months of system testing and code editing to verfiy that they are not doing any thing illegal. Many drivers writen bend the rules and put them selfs higher on the cpu food chain than they are sapposed to, If the driver is too high on the food chain and it dies, it will crash the computer. Microsoft did not want thousands of calls on how the new OS craxhes all the time. Actually if you try to load drivers that are not verified XP will often tell you that the drivers suck and will probably crash your computer.
Yeah, I've got it
For the most part I like the new look. Stable? So far. I was really impressed with the performance of Win2K, so XP should prove to be even better.
I really wish there were viable alternatives. I like Apple's operating system, but they're almost worse than Micro$oft when it comes to hardware. I could build 2 or 3 x86 computers for the price of one Apple. Wanna upgrade? Too bad, you won't be going to Best Buy and buying a new video card or sound card.
Anyone else wish the Amiga never died? At least Commodore had a decent price on their proprietary hardware.

XP's okay so far........don't really like the hardware hashing routine, but it's not an issue with the RC I'm using.
However.....because it's an NT kernal, driver issues have me nervous......BUT....it will sell hardware, and that make$ me hapy......it's what I do.

MechE,
I agree with what you are saying, Drivers are one of the biggest problems with PC's crashing. But it blows me away that Microsoft will always release these OS's without the support for the most current hardware. Linksys and Olicom have a pretty good share of the market place.
Maybe they are more interested in the money that they can make by trying to get us to upgrade all the time, then they are in making sure that the OS has the proper support from all the venders before they release it.
