Poor Oakville!
Dont know if you have seen the news, but, auto.com reports that FoMoCo is looking at possibly closing Oakville Assembly where my BEAUTIFUL NEW TRUCK
was made. They have only one shift there, and are not scheduled to build anything past 2005. Something like 1300 people work there.
Supposedly, Oakville is one of the least efficient truck plants taking some 26.5 hours to build a rig. I dont know about you, but my rig built in Oakville is a sweetie!!!
I think we ought to stick up for the folks who build our rigs, some of the best made, safest vehicles out there!!!!
THANK YOU OAKVILLE WORKERS!!!!

That vplant was awesome!
I just toured that plant last month with a group of 28 trucks from here! We had a great time, the plant was impressive & all the workers looked really happy! I can't understand why there's a problem! The plant manager was a very sharp woman who was a no nonsense type too.
I will admit we were all a bit curious as to why they weren't working at breakneck speed - they seemed a bit relaxed. As for it taking 26 hours to build a truck, if you were there & SAW how involved that process is, you'd be amazed it can be done in that amount of time! Besides, do we WANT them rushing? I often wonder how many problems could be avoided if they weren't racing to assemble the trucks we buy. Just my opinion & seems lately my opinion is not worth the time it takes me to type it. So if anyone disagrees w/me, by all means PLEASE go right ahead & say so! ALl I know is I hope the plant isn't shut down, they were doing a fantastic job & I'm glad they don't work any faster or we may see more problems than we do right now. BTW - they had just started the 2002 models the day we were there!

The plant here in Norfolk is in the process of a big $$$ addition/renovation. New jobs for the Norfolk assembly plant.
It's no secret that the American plants are much more productive than those in Canada! (Puts on flame proof suit) JK
If it's not as productive as the other plants, it seems to me it would be more cost effective to put some fire under their butts than it would be to close it down. Looking at it from business point of view, I would have to think that other factors are involved.

Well, everyone knows the KC assembly plant, where my SCrew was made, is the most efficient. I mean after all, where else can they put together a truck and just insert any radiator laying around when the proper one isn't available and then still get the upgrade price??
Actually, by the numbers, Norfolk was the most efficient and highest in quality of all the f-series truck plants last year. I don't have the stats right in front of me, but I do remember reading it (on BlueOvalNews, I think...) a few months back.
