Nice pics. They have been aggressively hitting our feeders lately. They are very territorial and fun to watch.

Takeda,

What's your opinion of the Nikon D3200? I pulled the trigger on it at Best Buy about two months ago (2-lens package 18-55 and 55-200) and have been very happy with it, but I've heard that it was lower-end of the DSLRs. I would like to start doing portraits some weekends as a supplemental income and I've got a photog friend who will sell me his 50/1.8 (he said it'll become a 75 on my rig). Just wanted your thoughts, thanks.

Heath

Even though the D3200 is Nikon's entry level DSLR, it's a good camera. The 18-55mm lens is a good all purpose lens, but the 55 200mm lens can be soft. Your friend told you the truth, with the DX image sensor (which your D3200 has) you get a focal length 1.5X multiplication factor. Make sure the 50mm f/1.8 lens he wants to sell you is the AF-S version, and not the AF-D version. The AF-D requires an AF motor in the body of the camera, which your D3200 doesn't have. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just to update you, his lens was an AF-D, but I'm going to purchase a 50mm f/1.8 AF-S tonight. I've got a photoshoot to do in the morning so I'll let ya know how the lens works out.
