Unhappy Help! Hard Disk Problems

Help! Sorry about a Non-truck post, but I know a lot of you guys are real hackers, and I am in need of some serious help.

I bought my kids a Build Your Own Box computer, (900 Mhz Athalon, 30 Gig HD, 512MB Ram, etc etc...) I bought Windows 98 SE (most stable OS, also I run it on my own computer), and ran setup on it. Everything went normally until I realized that the 30 gig HD was only being recoginzed as a 2 gig drive, even from the BIOS. This was a separate drive, installed in front of my eyes from a package, the package is labled Maxtor 30 Gig drive...How do I get 30 gigs on it? Arrrrgh!

If that is the Maxtor 7200 rpm 30gb then I have the same one. Not to sound like an idiot, but mine came with sofware that must be installed. But I was just adding a 30gb to my exsisting computer which already has a 20gb. But the instructions said you must use the software either way. If you have used the software already (I will assume you did) than you should call the Maxtor support line @1-800-262-9867 then press 1 for tech support. it maybe something with that HD and your bios.

with the Maxtor hard drives it is a safety feature....the HD should of come with a disk labled MaxBlaster....it takes care of that...if you don't have it ...it should of come with it...go back to where you bought it and ask them for it. hope this helps

Thumbs up Thanks!

Thanks guys. The store didn't give me the software, so I went to Maxtor's web site and found it. That did the trick.

What a great site!

Thanks again.
