Question for Neal.

Gonna run my truck at the local race track. I have the 17" rims on their. 265-70-17's. I have a set of Ford 16" rims from a friend. He bought new rims and tires for his. I got these real cheap. Anyway, if I take my 17"s off the back only. Is that gonna hurt me in the 1/4 or no? or Should I change them all the way around. The reason I want to do this is for the burn out purpose. I don't want to fry up my 17's. The 16's I'm not worried about. Those 17's cost way to much. Hope you can help here. Thanks Neal.

Damn I forgot the whole point!

The tires on the 16's are 245-70-16's. With the 16's on the back and 17's on the front. Is that gonna mess up the times? Slow me down? pick it up alittle? Again thanks dude.

As long as you don't engage the 4x4 you will be OK. It will look kinda funny with the littler tires in the back. It might help with the launch because the weight is already shifted to the rear. Remember some of the older dragster had a front high set-up. How many runs will you get? play with the tire pressure, I saw a show on speedvision that they changed the tire pressure 5 pounds and got 2/10's because of the launch (no tire spin).

Last question When and Where.

Firezapper,

Yea, I know it'll look funny. I've raced before. But that was in a Mustang. I just switch out the rear to not tear my daily driver tires up. The 16's I got are good enough to tear up. I just never really thought about the difference in tire. Ive seen the other way. Dragsters, Funny cars, etc run that all the time. I guess it really wouldn't make a difference. When, at Atco Dragway on Sept. 21st. That was the only night we could get the wives together. I got two other buddys who are racing there quads, I'll be racing my truck and quad. Why don't you stop by, bring the wife and kids. It ought to be a good time. I should post this in the NJ Chapter Forum of you know who, maybe get a little get together going for us. What do you think?

Cool

HI!... F-150 RAM AIR : Your current 17 inch tires are 31.61 inches in diameter. The 16 inchers you want to run are 29.50 inches in diameter. The 16 inchers will definately help out your times in the 1/4 mile if you can keep tire spin down. Beacause the 16's are smaller in diameter than the 17's they will actually increase your final gear ratio slightly. When I go to the dragstrip with my truck I run a set of 255/50/R17's on the back and my stock 275/60/R17's on the front. The rears are 27.04 inches in diameter bringing my 4.10 gears to the equivelent of 4.56's. You should have no problems running the 16's on the rear and good luck at the track. By the way to help reduce your 1/4 mile times a few tenths try removing the, spare tire, tailgate, trailer hitch, tonneau cover, etc... Let us know how you do.
