Tools

Hey all,
I'm sure I'm not the only mechanic on here and I know there are a lot of DIY guys as well. I'm just curious to see what brand tools y'all are using. Me personally, I've got a large Craftsman tool box at our shop full of Craftsman and Cornwell tools. How bout y'all?

Crap-on of course. Well I make money with them. I also get 60% new purchase and 100% replacement at work. Up to 15k annually.

Might as well post a pic or two.

I use cheap canadian tire stuff out in the pit. I was also gifted a 133 piece CAT tool set when when I work for Caterpillar mining. Rebranded crap on & proto.

I've been collecting tools since I was a kid.. My dad had a craftsmant tool set he bought when I was a kid and I got it from him. Then I've added stuff as I need it. If I need a tool I buy it some of the stuff I have has only been used once. I buy craftsman and I shop at Harbor Freight actually have allot of that crap. I only use tools to fix my stuff though. Good enough. Its rare that I need to buy a tool these days.

Craftsman for me after I weeded out all of the crappy Harbor Freight stuff my dad left me. Got a few Snap-on specialty tools like torque wrenches and the like, bought most of them off of eBay since I can't afford their new stuff.

Thanks fella.

And yeah, since I was a kid messing with Dirt bikes, av always loved quality hand tools. It's a man thing and being in the trade is an excuse to buy expensive quality pieces. It's an investment really.

When I worked for Caterpillar they had to provide the technicians with CAT tools as part of the quality control program for PIP, PSP and warranty purposes.

The tool foam / shadowing was designed by me while I was working in West Africa. Beleive me, between working and drinking there's still plenty of free time. It's used as FOD and also makes inventory examination quick and simple.

Why not.

I've slowly been grabbing things over the past couple of years. I eventually want a full air set-up when I have a place of my own and get a nice man cave going with a lift. Having quality tools is worth it, they're just so pricey

Snap-On or Mac if someone else is paying for it. I used to buy Craftsman but anymore they're junk so I have picked up a few Kobalt pieces. They are between the Craftsman and Snap-On in quality and equal to or cheaper than Craftsman in price.

Yep, that looks like a military toolbox. Very familiar with tool control, I spent many years in Navy aviation.

Mostly Kobalt and Husky for me with some older, good Craftsmen littered in. Not using anything every day, so all of it's good enough for me.

Navy! Good for you.

Yeah Foreign Object Damage to aircraft is significant to say the least!

The small cost to shadow my tools has been offset many times by the amount of tools I HAVEN'T lost. It also prevents me from impulse buying more snapon stuff as its got no place to hide. Saving me money everyday since he he he.

I've lately become a big fan of Cornwell. They're a bit cheaper than Matco which is a small step down from Snap-On. The Cornwell tools also have a lifetime warranty which is something I'm personally really big on. I won't buy something unless it's got a lifetime warranty.

I know how Snap-On is with their warranties, but do any of these companies like Pittsburgh (HF), and Husky, etc. fully honor their "lifetime" warranties? Cause almost every tool made now carries one.

I'd guess i've got around 20k in tools and spent 5100 (before tax) on current boxes. Both are used Snap-On boxes. One was a repo 7mo old, originally 8k+ and I picked it up for 3500

Very nice tools fella's, - wish they had a "show your tools" forum on this site. That would be cool, - well, probably should title it different, but you know what I mean.

Hey Patrick how many Rock Auto magnets do you have lol. They add up quick.
