Main power wire for the starter. They corrode internally. Check it..

Will it crank if you jump the firewall solenoid?

You fix it? Fixed mine, it was the solenoid that piggy backs the starter. What cheesed me off was O'Riely's said the starter was good. I knew it wasn't the first time. So I hooked it all up again, well just the battery to the starter this time anyway. Eliminating any other possibility right... Soon as I touched the negative cable to the battery, it would crank. So yea, what else could it be.

Boneheads I tell yuh.

If you can jump it from the firewall, then it might be a fuse. Fuse 19 in the cab and those 50's in the power distribution box under the hood. I believe it's 20 and 21 under the hood, - MAXI 50's.

You need to check the 175amp MEGA fuses as well on the 97 model year. I believe the M-fuse on top is the ignition circuit.

If you have the little users manual that comes in the glove-box when new, that will give you fuse locations. Or, you'll have to go to Motorcraft.com and download a fresh copy.

Make sure you have all the grounds connected. I know there is 3 that tie to one post on the firewall. Right next to the solenoid (starter relay). Or between the 175amp block and firewall solenoid. There's just one further right, the other side of the 175amp fuse holders.
