2004 5.4 something went poof and I need some help QUICK

I have owned this 2004 since new and it has always treated me well. This morning I went to the store. Everything was fine. Came out and started the truck up and smoke came up from under the hood on the drivers side. Now I have a rough idle. She stalls too. I did some searching here and have cleans the MAF but I fear something has shorted out or burned out. Check engine light is ON.

I went to Autozone and got a reading-
Lean on banks 1 and 2.

Any help would be deeply appreciated. This is my work truck and I am screwed if I can't fix this tomorrow.

This is the worst timing....trying to finish my dam taxes before Monday and now this. When it rains it pours.....good thing I am tough. Not sure how much more I can take though.

I need some relief.......

I would also like to mention she has 143,000 on the clock. Tranny was rebuilt last year. Alternator last year. Spark plugs two years ago. Nothing else has been done.

^ yeah haha. I don't think running lean makes smoke come from under the hood, something else is going on too

I did look under the hood. I cleaned my MAF and everything else looks fine. I dont know whats what under the hood. Sorry if I am making you think for some reason I did not. I could really use some help. If ball breaking is all I am going to get here then I will look elsewhere or just take it to the mechanic. I am sure there are some serious people on this forum who are interested in helping me out.

Posting something technical like this in the General Discussion forum isn't going to get you much help anyway - that's what we have all the other forums here for. This is where we shoot the breeze, the engine and year-specific forums are where you can get serious help.

Not trying to diss you, but if you don't know what you are looking at under the hood, taking it to a shop really would be your best option. They would have the experience to know what they are looking at and the test equipment to troubleshoot it.

All I can do is speak in generalities - a lean code both banks means too much air or not enough fuel. Too much air is either a major vacuum leak or unmetered (by the MAF) air getting in the intake. Check your intake tube between the MAF and the throttle body, there should be no holes in it. There are a LOT of vacuum tubes under there.

Tarajerame will help you, but he's very blunt and dry! He's like that all the time, and to everyone, so don't worry about it. But there are a lot possibilities and the symptoms aren't obviously specific to anything people recognize right off the bat. If you need it fixed quickly, I would have a mechanic take a look. We can help, but ultimately a guy who's there in the flesh is going to be the best.

Welcome to the forum by the way!

What did the smoke look like and smell like? Was it electrical or from the engine and gas/oil related? If you let the smoke out of an electrical component you should be able to see burn marks or melted parts in that area. The bad idle/stall could be a bad vacuum leak which would also let extra air into the intake and give you the lean codes. Look around for anything that burnt or loose. That will at least give people a place to start looking. Otherwise it's just a crap shoot.
