A question that nobody can answer about the 45-70 Springfield
You know in a 150 years or so, on 'HoverCraftOnline' a bunch of guys will be scratching their heads about a thread like this:
MARS_TRAPPER
"Does anyone know about old Ford trucks? I've got one and have been researching it. I know the right pedal was for lateral acceleration and the left one was for decelaration but this one has a third pedal! Any ideas?"
MoonBound
"Perhaps it was a altitude accentuator. No wait, they were land bound back then, how primitive. Never mind."
Space_Cadet
"Maybe it was just a foot rest. I read those Ford truck drivers were a lazy bunch. haha."
Mike Troyer
"I know the answer. They were taught not to 'lock up' the decelerator in a skid. In their panic, their pea brain(only used about 15% back then you know) wanted to stomp a pedal repeatedly. This 'placebo' pedal gave them a way to cope in their moment of terror. They were constantly running into each other back in those days. What a riot!
