If you are trying to knock out that many miles each day, you should probably stick to the Interstates. However, you could take route (3) but stay on US-385 to Custer. That cuts off about 30 miles, but you can't make quite as good time off the Interstates.

600+ miles a day on a bike can be rough.

10 hour days. Bad Weather can make it rough.
I've done 1350 in 22 hours straight through. But that's a few years ago. I should do a couple of little runs in the spring to get back in shape.

This is the way to go. Don't get on I-90 toward Chicago..stay on I-80, via the 294 interchange, go around the city. No need for bullet proof vests either. Chris is right on.
Safe trip! Thanks for all of your help tracking our vehicles. Hopefully we haven't done you wrong on your trip.

You could stay on I-90 and then head west on 290 in Chicago and then 290 joins in with 355 and then get back on I-90 in Schaumburg. This would keep you away from O'hare.

Or don't get on I-90, but stay on I-80 to the 294 interchange near Hazel Crest. Take 294 to 290 in Hillside, and then stay on 290 till it meets back up again with I-90 in Schaumburg. The worst part of this one would I-80, but this way would keep you off the Skyway and out of the city.

I agree with this. I personally avoid going on 90/94 any time I can. I always take 80/294 around the city. The extra cost of the tolls is worth it.
