Stevens 12 ga shotgun help

My wifes papaw picked up a Stevens 940b single shot 12 ga and when you shoot it, it breaks itself down. The forearm comes off a little too easy but i dont think that has anything to do with it. You can put a shell in it and lock it in place but once its fired the barrell breaks down. Kind of scary. Could there be build up that is causing it not to fully lock or could there be a part that is worn out? Maybe a mismatched barrell thats been replaced? Im looking for suggestions before i take it to a gunsmith for repairs for him.

take it to a gunsmith, sound like a worn pin holding the barrell.
