Because they had the ***** to build a hot-rod pickup truck.

I've owned more GM products than Ford over the years, and have seen no margin of greater quality between the brands. With proper maintenance, most modern vehicles will give you many miles of faithful service. My sister put 300K+ miles on a Geo Metro. Not one problem that didn't fall into the normal wear and tear category. As far as small pickups, I see many more old S-10s on the road and looking in great shape than any other.

Fords were just what my family seemd to have.. My grandfather had Galaxys then LTD's. My Dad started with a '60 Falcon to a '66 Fairlane to a '71 F250. (he still has the F250 ) There were other makes and models mixed in there too, but for the most part, the blue oval has been in my life...

Love my '97 with 240,000 miles on it and it's not even close to being tired!

I've had all kinds of cars. Close to 30 over the years. The fords especially ford trucks are just built better. At this point baring a really good deal I probably will never own anything but F-150's again..

Ya I was quoted 2000 installed for BFG T/A KO 33's, 2inch front Pro Comp Level, 1.5 inch rear AAL and new shocks all around. So its not that I can't afford what I want but that I end up spending my money on fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaks, guns and other hobbies.

Family always had fords other than the 71 corvette but that was my dads old car he used to drive back in the day then when he retired he bought it again! i like all old muscle cars regaurdless of make. Ford Dodge or chevy all the big 3 muscle cars are bad *** the ones from 1970's dont care for to many today.

but when it comes to work trucks ill take a ford everytime. the amount off sheer weight i have put in my truck would have stoped other trucks in there tracks but my little F150 just keeps going and asking for more. and its pretty reliable just normal wear and tear stuff other than my trans that was my own being young stuipd doing.

and another reason i love new ford.....

NO BAIL OUT REQUIRED!! a few of my die hard chevy friends even said you know i love my chevys but my hats off to ford they stuck it out and didnt need a bail out.

all in all my trucks for 174,000 on it got it when it had 98,000 and it just keeps plugging along. and as for the 1,500lbs weight rating of the bed you can go a little above that

as my sig says "F150 it'll squat but it'll never stop"

It is all a wash now anyway. Ford hasn't made a real truck since '79 and chevy since '87. Only reason that I went with a '02 superduty PSD vs an '02 2500 duramax was the Dana 60 up front. Only reason I went with an '08 PSD vs duramax was the ZF6 option.

Absolute favorite rig of the fleet is the '85 M-1009 with the 6.2L IDI.

those are fords? look like a blazer body almost.

that 6.2IDI "rattle box heard it wasnt that great?" the ford 6.9IDI on the hand man they are not fast but God help what ever you attach to it...throw in the bed. or if its hooked to a chain/strap it is coming with you.

i still say ford should turn the 4.9L I6 into a turbo diesel. most unstopable motor they ever made. those 6.2 IDI's

No, the M series are for sure straight bowtie with some minor military modification.

Absolutely I'd put my 6.2 IDI against a 6.9L IDI.

While the 300 six is a tough motor, no where near heavy enough to be a diesel.

This is an easy one. My first full time was with a garbage company. They drove Fords and we beat the hell out of them, but they kept going. After that I moved away from Fords and drove Nissans and GMs for a few years. After a short period the wife bought another Ford (a Ranger) and we've had at least one in our garage ever since. Now My job primarily uses Fords and I've seen them take a beating and keep going. Every make we've owned, other than Ford, has required us to go back several times for warranty work. Fords haven't.

Awesome thread. Love readin' these stories!

My grandfather was a security guard at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan after getting out of the war and returning home. I remember being small and marveling over my grandfathers Galaxies and Mustangs. I never knew why someone who was only a security guard held such a high regard for the blue oval. He told stories at family dinners of when he met Henry Ford and other family members and spoke of them like celebrities. My whole family would rather walk than drive anything but a Ford. Most of them are employees and love their job and the company they work for.

As I grew up, I began to appreciate Fords more and more. By the time I turned 16, I wanted an F-150. Despite going against every family memember, I purchased a Dodge Ram 1500. While it was a great truck, it began to rust away before my eyes despite me washing her every day. It had its random days where it wouldn't start, and my mechanic began growing old of me. I purchased a Ford and never looked back. I love family gatherings as you'll see Fords of all models and years. I read a lot about all the new advances in the 2013 Ram 1500, and I admire them stepping up, but there ain't nothin' like a damn Ford to me!

I've had Chevy and GMC's until I got married and my S10 Xtreme single mobile had to dissappear for something a little more sensible or at least that's what I told my wife when I bought the F150 FX4 SCAB.

My Xtreme, I sure wish I still had this truck. This was the first brand new vehicle that I have ever purchased.

Then I got rid of the F150 and got the F350 to tow a 5er.

I grew up in a Chevy family and had to work on every one of them, constantly! I bought a 82 trans am and it was nothin but a money pit. Then when I noticed my father inlaws old 79 f100 that he rear ended a hitch with and had to add water to it everyday that had 297,000 miles on it and fired up and took us to work everyday. Then when I bought my first 96' ranger, I never looked back. Now the proud owner of a hard workin 97' f150 for 8 years. Best vehicle I have ever owned and will never drive anything else. All the chevy drivers can hate all they want but when we are pullin them from the ditchs, they know whats up, thats why they hate us so much. Thank god for Henry Ford and for more than creating the best vehicles, for all of his great creations, PERIOD.

I never knew what all Henry Ford had accomplished until recently when I watched "The Men Who Built America" Made me appreciate Ford even more.

I grew up in a GM family -- my old man was enamored with Chevy trucks and "land yacht" Oldsmobiles. It wasn't until I was older that I realized that was why we were always turning wrenches in my family.....

I purchased my first new Ford back in '97 (a regular cab Ranger with the 2.3L 4-banger) and it turned out to be the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned -- so reliable that it's still in my stable and I drive it almost every day to this day!

After the good luck with my Ranger, I decided to replace my wife's '97 Sunfire (fun car to drive but the damn thing would $500-dollar-you-to-death!) with an Escape and the pattern began -- I now have a total of five Blue Ovals in my fleet! Buy them new, take care of them, and forget about it -- when it's time for another new vehicle, my wife knows the only stop we'll be making will be a Ford dealer......
