Looking up old friends
Looking up old friends
With the inter webs being so big these days, It's almost hard not to find anyone. I'm sure a lot of you have searched old friends, girlfriends, co workers etc to see where they are and how they are doing.
My recent most unfortunate story is about a friend who I met back in 06. He applied for a job posting I had for a laborer. Turned out to be a hard worker and stayed with us for about a year before he headed back to his home town in Kentucky. Great guy, trying to get his life straight after a few wrong turns. One of the funniest people Ive ever met. Always had a way of pulling a laugh from a situation you wouldn't think was possible. He got the news of a daughter back from his home town that he didnt know about and that was his ticket home with a desire to change his life. When he made it back there, he sent me tons of pictures of his daughter and we kept in touch for a few weeks but slowly the calls got further apart.
I recently was thinking about a quote he had tattood on his chest that read "This too shall pass" Which was his way of moving forward through the hardships he had encountered through his life. So I decided to look for him on the net. Took me 2 days to find the bad news. He had passed away in 2009. A week after contracting the H1N1 flu virus. He was only 26.
He once told me that he looked up to me and hoped to live a life like mine someday. Ever since then I looked at him like a little brother. Truth is, his impression he left on my life was greater than he knew.

WOW sad story. I was sitting here with my own problems. Kinda makes it seem like as bad as it is it could be worse. I do like the tattoo saying. Mine has been "is it what it is" Gotta say life sucks sometimes.
I'm sorry to hear this. It sounds like he made quite an impact on your life, and that will not pass. It's funny how short relationships and little moments with those we don't or barely know can impact our life or change our path. I hope he was able to enjoy eery moment he had with his kid and that he was able to be the man he wanted to be.
Yea. Ive lost a few friends from car crashes and even suicides A few family members to old age, cancer or what not. I guess it's just a little different when it's someone you lost touch with and had good expectations of. Looking for him was like a big brother check up. Needed to see how things were going for him.
