should we send pics like this to Ford and ask for their opinion????
NOTE: please understand I am a loyal FORD customer, one who has a Crown VIc (95), an F-150 xlt sc( 2000) and a new 2001 ESCAPE ( great vehicle btw) I am just really concerned that the F-150 that I once thought was this BIG indestructable safe truck obviously is NOT and I want some answers!!

It looks to me that it is irrelivent if what body style your f150 is, they all have the same problem.....DO NOT GET INVOLVED IN AN OFFSET CRASH IF YOU CAN HELP IT, IF YOU'RE GOING TO HIT, HIT'EM HEAD-ON. That's your best chance to make it out alive or at least not end up in the ICU. I still have and will have(at least untill 04) my truck and will continue to drive it everywhere. Just will be more cautious that's all.
and expressed my concern ( after looking at ALL the F-150 trucks ext.cabs in collisions on C0-Partfinder '97 - '01) that they all seem to have a serious problem where the roof structure has a weak point at the connection area of the 2 doors ( either side) and how in an offset collision the roof buckles upward extremely high allowing the firewall and everything attached to collapse in and onto the occupants. THEY SAID THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY and will do " everything possible to insure the owner satisfaction with the vehicle". They also noted how inthe Govt. test the F-150 received ***** 5 star rating. I pointed out that test is conducted as a full frontal and yes it appears they do well in such crashes. But in an offset type collision..there the problem of catastrophic failure in the structure of the vehicle exists. Most collisions are of this type, not full frontal. On Co-Partfinder there are several trucks hit in the offset position. see for your self, its horrifying to see how poorly our trucks do. I live in California where there are hundreds of these types of collisions everyday, God knows I hope if I am ever the victom of one I'm driving my Escape or Crown Vic , not the F-150. Ford said they will get back to me ASAP regarding what they are going to do.
Writing to Ford is a waste of effort, unless it makes you feel better. Why do I say that? Do you seriously believe that Ford will not do anything to pass that damned offset crash test? You can bet a year's salary that they were working on a design that will pass that test days, if not hours after the results of that test were made public.
