2012 explorer

are the 2012 ford explorers all wheel drive or four wheel drive? i know it says 4wd, but doesn't have a neutral like my truck. it does have different settings for different conditions. i was wondering if the normal setting is still all wheel drive.

If it has a selectable low range, it's 4WD. Usually your AWD systems are only a single speed t-case which is high range.

I had a '97 Explorer 4x4, it didn't have a neutral either. The switch had 2WD-4HI-4LO.

I'm not sure exactly how the Advance Trac systems works on the newer models, I've not been in one.

It's an "intelligent 4wd" system which is essentially AWD. "Normal" is FWD but it will kick in the rear wheels if needed.
