Programming key fob for 95 Crown Vic

Hi guys!

Hopeing someone in the community can help. My 80 yr old mother drives a beautiful 95 Crown Victoria. But the keyless entry system no longer works nor does her one remaining remote locking key fob.

I looked up and found the Sticky "How To" here for programming PATS Keys and remote key fobs etc for our trucks (04-08s) and tried that but it didn't work. Wondering if anyone here knows of a different procedure for programming the remote door lock/unlock feature on the key fobs for a 95 Crown Vic?

Would it make any difference that the keyless entry keypad doesn't work? All the locks work fine with the keys, or the door rest push buttons.

Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone!

The fob does not work or the RKE does not work ?

You list both, but no indication of how you got there.

The keypad does not work at all ?
If you try the 7/8 & 9/0 key combo that does not lock the door ? ( think that is on that MY also ) ?

Non operational RKE fob could be dead battery or problems with the micro switch in the RKE fob.

If I am not mistaken the RKE fobs are the dog bone looking fobs, not the same as the square ones ( not interchangeable ).

The programming procedure on the 95 should be from the keypad on the door ( not the key cycle ). Enter the factory code ( not a personal code ) on the keypad and immediately press the 1/2 key again, the locks should cycle to confirm entry into programming mode ( and it erased all previous RKE fobs ).

Within 5 seconds press a key on the RKE fob, the locks should cycle again.
Within 5 seconds from the 1st and others, press any key on the RKE fob to add them ( still the max of 4 I think ) The keypad will be illuminated when in programming mode, if it goes out, you missed the 5 second limit, and need to start over.
within 5 seconds of programming the last fob, press the 7/8 & 9/0 buttons to exit.

-> did you get it to go this far ?

If not, have you checked any fuses associated with the RKE system.
The '00 M F150 that used the RAP ( Remote Antitheft Personality ) had external relays for the door locks, where the '01 and newer had the CSM ( Central Security Module ) that the door locks were direct to the CSM, nothing external ( and only fuses for the CSM ).

I would expect ( cannot confirm ) that the system has the external relays for it, that are usually not in the fuse panels ( the 99-00 F150 the door lock relays were under the oval on the dash ).

Can't get you a 95 manual, but here is the URL for a 96. Would bet the procedures are the same for this year.

PS - Are you sure the 95 has a PATs key?

Thanks guys. I found online the programming steps for the key fob (rectangular, same as ones on our trucks) but SSCULLY is right - the process used involves the door keypad rather than the key cycle. Since that does neither the key fob or the doorpad works, programming seems impossible as I can't get the system to enter the programming mode. The door keypad does not function so it appears it's off to the dealership for help.

Appreciate the replies.

Did you check the fuses for the RAP ( Remote Anti theft Personality ) module ?

Might be listed as remote keyless entry or as a door lock item.

Check the fuses with a test light or meter on both pins on the back of the fuse while installed.

when you say the door keypad does not work, is it a case of the factory code does not unlock the doors ?

if you press any key, does it illuminate ?

Steve83 might have a diagram at the other site he is on for the CV RKE system, I do not have anything that old ( '96 is the newest I have a DVD for, and I don't think the 95 & 96 are the same ).

The RAP might have another name, think the '95 still had the LCM ( lighting control Module ), WCM ( Wiper Control module ), etc instead of the functions in the GEM or integrated into the device ( like a 04+ would have ).
