Dealer Questions
I need to know what I need to do in order to get warranty work done now that I have moved overseas. Do I need to go to a German Ford dealer whenever(if) there is a problem with my truck and they do all work off the VIN or do I need to formally write to the dealer who sold me the truck and have it changed? Thanks.
SilverCrew,
I was in Germany from '96-'00 and the Ford dealers over there did warranty work on my Explorer and Mustang plus routine service. There is nothing special you have to do except you may need to show proof of your delivery date so that the dealer will except that your truck is still under the warranty period. I'm not sure about extended warranties. As long as the standard warranty hasn't expired you'll be OK. You can take it anywhere that will work on a Ford (AAFES garage being the next logical choice), but they won't honor the warranty. Or just do the work yourself. The main problem I had was trying to describe the problems the vehicle had sometimes. Obvious issues were never a problem (ie bad clutch), but their command of English and mine of German made things interesting sometimes. Also, be advised that once out of warranty, service and repairs are pretty expensive as I'm sure you are already aware to the point, as an example, that many folks would mail order tires from the states instead of buying them local. I was stationed at Ramstein AB in K-town so I had multiple Ford dealers to go to. You may not be so lucky if you are out in the boonies. Good look in Deutschland!
