reaching out to the union firefighters out there
ok guys and gals looking for some advice/insite to a situation that has come up. I work part time at a small dept that has a few full timers that are represented by IAFF local -----. This dept has adopted a few "perminate part time" positions which means baiscally regular hrs and a steady paycheck but with out any of the perks of the union. now i have been approached by the perminate part timers as well as some of the other part time guys trying to unionize with a local teamsters union to work independly. The part timers arent trying to mess with the already established union by any means, it was made clear that if this is going to interfere with our full time union guys it just wont happen. we just want some representation due to the fact the dept doesnt follow there own policies reguarding these positions.
This small dept isnt going to be a career for me so i dont want to be apart of something that could jepardize a possible opertunity with a different larger dept someday. So i guess would you guys that are more experienced with the IAFF look down on being apart of this?? Now i know there are so many variables to look at but my biggest concern is this hurting me down the road.
Thanks guys for any advice or insite as i am not to familar with the IAFF and stay safe out there!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Why not contact the head office and ask someone to refer you to someone who knows the right way to go?
